Every complaint gives you the chance to:
💬 Make your client feel heard
💬 Show that you understand their concerns
💬 Demonstrate that you genuinely care

The way you respond can transform a tricky situation into a stronger, longer-lasting relationship.

Curious about how to turn complaints into opportunities and protect your reputation at the same time?
That’s exactly what we cover in our Complaints Handling Workshop. It's online and on-demand, so you can watch it whenever it fits with you.

Handling complaints doesn’t have to feel like a mountain of paperwork or a tense standoff. 🏔️💬

Here’s how small, smart steps can make a big difference:

1️⃣ Listen first, respond second
Picture this: the client has just emailed a concern. Instead of firing off a reply straight away, you take a breath, read carefully, and really understand what they need. That pause? It prevents miscommunication and sets a calm tone from the start.

2️⃣ Have a simple, repeatable process
Imagine a checklist or a few templated emails ready to go. Every step documented. No chasing files, no missed follow-ups. Your day stays smoother, and the client feels looked after.

3️⃣ Keep communication professional and calm
Think of your words as a bridge. A calm, professional response, even in a heated moment, can turn frustration into understanding. You protect your reputation, and the client leaves feeling heard.

Handling complaints is part of the job, but it doesn’t have to be a headache.
Small systems + thoughtful communication = smoother projects, happier clients, and less stress.

Will the way homes are bought and sold in other parts of the work in England and Wales?

Here's a couple of quite important differences to consider, and the impact it has.

We need a system that focuses on the right kind of upfront information, that will help consumers, help the home buying and selling process but which doesn't restrict, dumb down or lower the quality of advice that people really need.

Three reasons why now is a good time to rethink the way we buy and sell homes.

The government announced reforms to the way we buy and sell homes in England and Wales this week and there is a lot to consider.

I’d love to hear from you:
👉 What’s the hardest part of handling complaints in your surveying work?

Your answer might just help another surveyor realise they’re not the only one who finds it tough.

Thinking about trying an AI tool to speed up your surveys or reports?

Before you upload a single file, take a closer look at the fine print.

I’ve reviewed a few platforms recently and found:
🚫 No data encryption
🚫 Confidentiality that ends after the trial
🚫 Vague deletion policies
🚫 Clauses allowing your content to train their AI
🚫 Liability caps that mean no real protection

As professionals handling sensitive client data, we can’t afford to overlook this.

In my latest blog, I’ve shared what to check before you try any AI tool and how to protect your business and your clients.

💬 Have you read the terms of any AI platform you’ve tried? Anything surprise you?

AI tools promise speed and efficiency -but hidden risks in their terms could expose your business and your clients. Here’s what every surveyor should check before uploading data.

Discover the 8 Essential Questions to Ask Every Client Before a Home Survey ⬇️

If you've ever found yourself mid-way through a report thinking:

“I wish I’d asked that earlier…”

…this is for you.

I've put together a free guide with the key questions I’ve found (and seen others use) to:

- Improve client conversations
- Tailor your reports to what really matters

This isn’t about scripts. It’s about listening better - and protecting yourself in the process.
