We try to relay some of the "ultra-local" recollections and anecdotes about and on this page.
We read and hear different things within Speke.
One longtime local just claimed very matter-of-fact that "I Saw Her Standing There" was written at George's home (by Paul) at 25 Upton Green. Interesting.... here is what others have said:
'According to Beatles biographer Mark Lewisohn, McCartney first worked out the chords and arrangement on an acoustic guitar at the family home of his Liverpool friend and fellow musician Rory Storm on the evening of 22 October 1962. Two days later, McCartney was writing lines for the song during a visit to London with his then-girlfriend Celia Mortimer, who was seventeen at the time herself. The song was completed about a month later at McCartney's Forthlin Road home in collaboration with Lennon.'
Another fun little local memory about those early days:
"George got on (the bus) at the stop at Little Heath and Central Way. My husband who got on at the Eastern Avenue Terminus would often sit next to him and chat when George was on his way to a booking with his guitar! Also often saw him on the last bus back to Speke at night with all the drunks!" 🙃😎
