Happy ! 🌱

Today, 7 October, we celebrate cotton: the best natural fibre in the world. Biodegradable and sustainable, it's an important source of income for over 250 million people, especially in developing countries. Unlike synthetic fibres, which take huge amounts of energy to make and shed microplastics into our oceans, cotton comes from nature and goes back to nature.

World Cotton Day was first launched on 7 October 2019 at WTO headquarters in Geneva, alongside the FAO, ITC, UNCTAD and the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC). WIS is proud to be ICAC's Official Digital Partner for World Cotton Day.

At WIS we're proud to be the independent eyes and ears on the ground for the cotton trade, with:
✅ Supervision of loading and unloading
✅ Quality inspection and sampling of cotton bales
✅ Third-party traceability audits

Today we celebrate everyone in cotton: the farmers, ginners, merchants, inspectors, spinners, weavers and makers who bring it from the field to the fabric. Thank you! 🙌

A day to recognise and celebrate cotton and the people who make its journey possible — from the fields where it is grown to the many stages that transform this natural fibre into the textiles we know and use every day.

Cotton plays an important role across the globe, supporting communities and livelihoods, enabling international trade, driving innovation and contributing to a more sustainable future. 🌍

At WIS, we’re proud to play our part in the global cotton supply chain. As an integral part of third-party inspections and traceability audits, our teams provide the eyes and ears on the ground, helping to verify processes, provide independent oversight and support greater transparency from source through to supply chain.

We’re also delighted to be the Official Digital Partner to ICAC for World Cotton Day 2026, helping to celebrate and share the story of this remarkable natural fibre and the industry behind it.

Last week Rob travelled to Lome, Togo for the L’African Cotonnière Africaine (ACA) 2026. Meeting him there we had Michel of WIS Ivory Coast, Pierre of WIS Senegal, Herve of WIS Benin, Anem of WIS Togo. Gathering to discuss all matters African cotton with producers and other members of the supply chain to discuss the current challenges and the future. ACA were fantastic hosts and we look forwards to supporting African cotton for many years to come!
