Some views just don’t fit into a phone camera…

Last night over New Quay was one of them.

The sky turned the softest pinks and purples, the water went almost completely still, and the sun slowly disappeared behind the bay. The photos are lovely, but they still don’t quite capture how good it looked in real life.

One of those moments where you stop what you’re doing for five minutes and just look.

And this is only a few miles from Synod Cottage.

If you like your breaks with sea air, sunsets, coastal walks and somewhere quiet to come back to afterwards… West Wales does this sort of thing rather well.

🐸 Apparently “getting the cottage ready for guests” now includes wildlife rescue…

Half an acre of grass sounds lovely on the listing.

What the listing doesn’t show is us actually having to cut it. 😂

Today’s mission at Synod Cottage was getting the grounds freshly cut and looking good for our next guests… but the mower had a few unexpected obstacles.

Meet the locals. 🐸

A couple of newts and a very well-camouflaged frog were discovered hiding in the grass, so mowing temporarily became a search-and-rescue operation while we carefully moved them out of harm’s way and into the safer edges of the grounds.

It definitely makes cutting half an acre take a little longer, but this is exactly what we love about being out here. 💚

No perfectly manicured hotel lawns.
No concrete courtyard pretending to be a garden.

Just half an acre of Welsh countryside, hedgerows, birds, frogs, newts and whatever else decides it lives here before we do. 😂

So when you bring the kids or the dogs to Synod Cottage, have a little look around the garden…

Sometimes the best part of the day happens when you’ve stopped looking for it…

Tonight at Synod Cottage, the sky decided to put on a bit of a show. ❤️

No filter.
No fancy plans.
Just standing in the garden watching the sun disappear behind the trees while the whole sky turned pink and purple.

And after a day exploring West Wales, this is exactly the sort of evening we love here.

A hot tub.
Something nice to drink.
Nowhere you need to be.
And apparently a complimentary sunset thrown in. 😂

It’s easy to sell a holiday cottage with photos of bedrooms and hot tubs…

But really, this is what people come away for.

The quiet.
The space.
The little moments you didn’t plan.

After a proper hillside roam with the family — the kind where you convince yourself every uphill bit is definitely the last one — there was only one sensible way to recover…

🍗 Possibly the best chicken goujons we’ve had
☕ And a very necessary coffee.

One of our favourite things about staying at Synod Cottage isn’t just the cottage itself — it’s heading out, exploring the coast and countryside, and discovering places like this along the way.

And after all those hills, the calories obviously didn’t count. That’s how walking works. 👀
