Here are some excellent walking routes and features to look out for directly from your doorstep:
🚶 Recommended Walks from the Apartment
• The Llangynidr Lock Flight Loop: Just minutes away, you can explore the famous historic five-lock flight (Locks 64–68), which lifts boats over 55 feet. The Canal & River Trust recently added scenic picnic spots right near Lock 65, making it a perfect spot to rest and watch the colorful narrowboats pass by.
• Llangynidr to Talybont-on-Usk (Linear Towpath): For a peaceful, flat, and completely pavement-free walk, head west along the canal toward Talybont. It is an easy 4.5-mile round trip that passes over a beautiful aqueduct and directly by welcoming waterside pubs like The White Hart or The Star.
• Crickhowell Canal Walk: Heading east along the towpath takes you on a tree-lined stretch toward Llangattock and Crickhowell (approx. 5.5 miles), offering sweeping, elevated views across the Usk Valley and the surrounding hills.
• Tor y Foel Ascent: For a more strenuous adventure, you can break away from the canal towpath onto country lanes to climb Tor y Foel. The peak rewards you with panoramic vistas over the Talybont Reservoir and the central Brecon Beacons peaks.
