Good afternoon,
Last night Stephen was informed that the council will be taking road-closure measures this December.
“The Way Forward – Festive Season: At this time we are aware that the MPS is heavily resourced to deal with the onset of the Festive Season which will see Officers across the Borough directed to other duties, such as patrolling shopping areas, and hotspots. As a result a decision has been taken by the Director of Highways and Sustainable Transport Jamie Cooke, in consultation with colleagues to introduce disruptive ad-hoc overnight closures of Royal Albert Way between 22:00 and 03:00 on the following dates: - 3 rd, 4th, 5th December 2021 17th, 18th, December 2021 26th, 27th, December 2021 14th, 15th, January 2022”
Additionally:
“On the weekends where no closures are in force Police will use officers from the Enforcement Partnership Team, and the Local Safer Neighbourhood Team to carry out additional patrols using their powers to prevent the activities. The Police have also indicated that they will be continuing to organise operations using specialist assets from the Road and Transport Policing Commands Roads Policing Teams. A contractor has been arranged and these closures will be implemented accordingly. In conjunction with the Police, Officers from Highways & Sustainable Transport and Community Safety will be looking into the use of acoustic enforcement cameras. These cameras detect the level of noise over permitted levels and trigger the cameras accordingly. How to enforce using these cameras is being explored with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, who have apparently used these to good effect within their Borough for similar issues. Another method of controlling the anti-social behaviour under consideration, is the use of a permanent gating system, and flip down signage, which will allow the road to be closed without the need to employ a traffic management contractor. Whilst the initial outlay may be significant it will allow the road to be closed at short notice and reduce the level of resource used to implement the closure.”
I hope this is welcome news and will allow you to enjoy your homes during the Christmas period. Please continue to let us know if the issue flares up.
With all best wishes,
