The High Value Council Tax Surcharge, or 'Mansion Tax', applying to all homes with a value of over £2m, is being introduced in 2028, with Valuation Office appraisals this year.

It is estimated that 40% of appeals against these Government valuations will be successful.

In order to challenge the Government's valuations, home owners will need an RICS 'Red Book' valuation of their properties, provided by a qualified Chartered Surveyor.

CRRE Property Advice are best served to provide these valuations in the South-West London suburbs, Elmbridge and the Guildford area.

'Mansion Tax' - an estimated 40% of appeals against VOA 'Mansion Tax' valuations will be successful. The new tax applies to all homes valued at over £2m.

As you may have read, a new 'Mansion Tax' applies from April 2028 for homes in England valued over £2m, with annual charges of £2,500 to £7,500, depending on the value of your property.

Mansion Taxes will be based on April 2026 market values.

If this may affect you, it is strongly advised to appoint your own qualified Valuation Surveyor to value your home to enable you to challenge the Mansion Tax valuation, if you think it is incorrect.
