There isn’t just a backlog of care in the NHS.
Since 2004, the cost of fixing the NHS Estate backlog of maintenance – everything from leaky gutters to faulty lifts and the very fabric of hospital buildings –is up from £4.5 billion to £10.2 billion in 2022 in real terms.
NHS leaders have called for maintenance to be expedited due to the poor condition of many NHS buildings, and we are with them on this.
