📈 Will house prices rise or fall when the stamp duty holiday ends? 📈

🔸 Demand for property has risen sky-high in recent months; likely to continue after the tax holiday ends. 🔸

📊 Experts say property prices are likely to rise after the stamp duty holiday ends (end of June)

▪️ The Treasury waived the stamp duty tax last July to give property buyers a break, and keep the property market going amid the coronavirus pandemic.

💷 More mortgages are being taken out; Bank of England reports a 4% increase in mortgage approvals between April and May 2021

📈 Estate agents are also seeing an increase in house sales – they are selling the highest proportion of homes they have, since 2002

❓ However, house buyers are worried that house prices will fall, leaving them in negative equity❓

🔥 UK housing market is on fire, warns Bank of England economist 🔥

🔸 Chief economist for the Bank of England, Andy Haldane, said the housing market is "on fire" thanks to the extension of government tax breaks and increased market demand. 🔸

▪️ Alongside the Bank of England's ultra-low interest rates, Haldane commented on these factors that the property market was likely to continue running hot

🗯️ "As things stand, the housing market in the UK is on fire" – Andy Haldane

▪️ “There’s a significant imbalance between incipient demand and available supply of houses, and because the laws of economic gravity have not been suspended, the result is pretty punchy rises in house prices.”
