The bugs are tiny insects which live, unsurprisingly, in beds, but clothing and furniture can also attract them. Signs of a bed bug infestation are small bites on the body and spots of blood on bedding. Thankfully a mild steroid cream can treat bites, although they can disappear on their own after a few days.

So whose responsible?
If a tenant can prove that the bed bug infestation started just after moving into the property (usually within the first 4 weeks) landlord will have to take responsibility for eliminating them. However, if a tenant has already lived in the property for a few months or so, then a tenant can be held responsible for treatment.
