If you own a rental property in Croydon, this one's important.
From 25 September 2026, Croydon Council is introducing a new Selective Licensing Scheme across 14 wards — including South Norwood, Thornton Heath, Addiscombe, Broad Green and Selhurst.
What that means practically: if your property is in one of these wards and you rent to a single household, a single tenant or two sharers. you'll need a license before you can legally rent it out. Applications open this month.
The fee is £800 per property, paid in two parts. You could get £100 off if you're an NRLA or LLAS member, or £50 off if your property has an EPC rating of B or above.
This is exactly the kind of thing we keep track of so our landlords don't have to.
