We’re speeding our way through year three at Harris Le Beau - time flies! The journey so far has been full of blood, sweat and tears, highs and lows, successes and growth. From getting lost in East London, sharing a sofa with a very angry dog, and having unexpected drinks with a pro golfer in Mayfair, to the hard graft of selling and letting properties day in, day out. One thing is for sure, every day is a surprise and you never know what is going to happen next. Anyone starting a new business will know that there’s an awful lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes. We do everything with extra love, care and attention because for us, this is not just a job, it’s our everything, and we’re so grateful for all the support we’ve received from our amazing clients, fellow agents, friends and family. There has also been a lot of fun along the way with networking events, away days and of course the odd car show! Connaught Village is located at the heart of The Hyde Park Estate. Having worked as an agent in W2 with a specific focus on the Hyde Park Estate for over 12 years, I am passionate about the location and know the streets like the back of my hand. I’ve sold countless properties to people that had previously lived in areas such as Marylebone, Knightsbridge and Mayfair and may have considered W2 as a poor relation in comparison but are pleasantly surprised to find they could get a lot more sq ft’age for the same price they would pay as elsewhere.

The area was heavily bombed during WW2, following which there wasn’t enough money to repair many of the damaged buildings resulting in approximately 50% of the estate being bulldozed. During the 1950’s and 1960’s the area underwent significant redevelopment which included several architecturally significant buildings such as 25 Porchester Place, The Water Gardens and The Quadrangle.

Some of the more traditional buildings that remain include Connaught Square which is complete in its original architecture aside from numbers 31-34 which were bombed and demolished but reconstructed in the Georgian style and are now luxury lateral flats. Other areas that survived the bombings include Albion Street, parts of Hyde Park Square and Hyde Park Gardens, the latter of which is now the most sought after and expensive terrace on the North side of Hyde Park. Hyde Park Gardens has its own beautiful, landscaped gardens, frequently winning the award for the best large private garden in London. It consists of some of the grandest apartments in London, many of which on the upper floors have fabulous views of Hyde Park. The terrace is divided into a non-gated end, where the properties are set back from the road and have phenomenal proportions, and the gated end offering more security and parking, and slightly smaller but equally as desirable homes.

Hyde Park Gardens is also the home of the High Commission of Sri Lanka. There are many notable residents in the area including Tony and Cherie Blair, Claudia Winkleman, Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson with Winston Churchill having resided at Sussex Square from 1921-1924.

Located in the heart of London, the Hyde Park Estate is relatively unknown compared with other historic London estates, but this is changing rapidly. Its unique blend of location, attractive and varied architecture, and award-winning picturesque and tranquil garden squares mean it is now recognised as one of London’s most sought-after residential areas.

Situated at the Northeastern tip of Hyde Park and forming part of the W2 postcode, the triangular Hyde Park Estate is set within the boundaries of Edgware Road, Sussex Gardens and Hyde Park Place and the estate is mostly owned by the Church Commissioners for England.
