In 2018, many of us arrived in Moscow carrying other people’s opinions. Then we saw it for ourselves.

From the grandeur of the Metro stations to the elegance of the city skyline, the Ritz, Moscow reminded us that travel is often the best cure for stereotypes.

What they said and what we saw were two completely different things.

Now this is the power of branding.

At the Ecobank Adire Exhibition in Victoria Island, I had actually seen Ruth Obi’s ombré designs up close at her stand. The consistency, the identity, the distinctiveness, it stood out immediately.

So when I later came across a video of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo wearing the same ombré design, I recognised it instantly.

“This is Ruru.”

At the stand, he asked if the piece was only for women.

He was told yes.

But in his charismatic style, he insisted on trying it anyway and wore it over what he already had on.

That moment says everything.

When branding is strong enough, it doesn’t need explanation. It travels with you.

I saw it before it went viral. And I recognised it when it did.

Keep it up, Ruth.

I’ve watched World Cups across four continents. Every stadium tells a story, every host nation leaves a legacy, and every tournament reminds us why football remains the world’s greatest unifier.

“All things bright and beautiful…”

The Lord gave us eyes to see, lips to tell, and ink to document.

Have a great day.

Regent’s Park: You Snooze, You Lose

At the height of the London property boom, I identified a beautiful house within the Crown Estate in Regent’s Park for a client.

One viewing became two… then a third.

As we walked through again, the owner—who had held the property for 30+ years—pulled me aside.

“We have another interested buyer,” he said quietly. “And they seem serious.”

After the viewing, I told my client:

“Properties here are gold dust. You need to decide.”

The next day, I called the agent.

Gone. Cash buyer accepted.

Not willing to lose it.

“Have contracts been issued?”

“No… but it’s effectively done.”

Last move:

“We’ll match the offer and attend the solicitor’s office today to exchange.”

Pause.

That changed everything.

Attended exchange = all parties and solicitors meet, sign, and exchange contracts immediately. No delays. Once done, it’s legally binding.

Within hours, my client’s solicitor travelled from her Bell Street office near Edgware Road to the vendor’s solicitor’s office in North Finchley, banker’s draft in hand.

She sat there for hours, reading every page, agreeing every clause, and answering every question.
Around 10 p.m., the call finally came.

“We’ve exchanged.”

The other buyer had no idea what had happened.

The following morning, they received a call from the agent.

“I’m sorry, but another party exchanged contracts yesterday.”

The finish line had been crossed.

The deal was done.

That, in many ways, is Regent’s Park.

The finest properties are incredibly rare. Opportunities appear infrequently and disappear quickly.

In markets like this, hesitation can be costly.

Or, as I often say:

You snooze, you lose. 🎩

Ayo Otuyalo is conferred with the Freedom of the City of London at the historic Guildhall, a fitting testament to a life and career built on character, leadership, relationships, and global relevance.

The Freedom of the City of London remains one of the oldest surviving traditional ceremonies in the world, dating back to 1237. Historically, it represented trust, honour, and the right to conduct trade and civic life within the City of London. Over time, it evolved into one of the City’s most respected honours, bestowed upon distinguished individuals whose contributions have shaped business, leadership, public life, philanthropy, arts, and international relations.

Among those honoured over the years are Sir Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, Margaret Thatcher, Muhammad Ali, Ian Wright, and Morgan Freeman, individuals whose influence transcended borders and generations.

Today, it is fitting that Ayo Otuyalo joins that distinguished company.

Ayo has preserved the timeless ethos and character of a true gentleman while remaining deeply relevant across the world and across generations.

At the airport the night before, Buki Odeyemi simply said:
“I’m on my way to Pastor Ayo’s conferment.”

That statement alone captures the many dimensions of the man.

To some, he is a respected business leader.
To others, a mentor.
To many, a spiritual guide.
A connector of people and ideas.
A trusted friend.
But above all, a truly internationally connected gentleman whose grace, humanity, and relationships continue to leave a lasting impact wherever he goes.

One of the most famous traditions attached to the Freedom of the City of London is the symbolic privilege of driving sheep across London Bridge, a nod to medieval times when Freemen could bring livestock into the City without paying tolls.

Congratulations once again to Ayo Otuyalo on this richly deserved honour.
