Wiltshire, near Hungerford.

Delighted to be able to finally share details of this project in Wiltshire, near Hungerford: a new build in the traditional local vernacular in a beautiful spot with far reaching views of the North Wessex Downs AONB.

Replacing a 1970s home of no architectural merit, this house proves a new build can add to its setting. Built by Weatherly Construction with local flint, handmade brick quoins and surrounds and a clay tile roof with lead dormer cheeks.

A little teaser of a recently photographed new build in Wiltshire.

Wolverston Barn, Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall.

The kitchen, with the dining area beyond. Keeping the kitchen on the ground floor freed the volume in the pitched first floor section for the split level sitting room above. Folding doors open onto the patio and 70 ft (21 m) garden.

We used handleless matt white cabinetry rather than a more decorative kitchen, letting the flagstone floor and the bifolds carry the room. A large picture window in the double height space brings light to the rear of the plan.

Bonny Barn, Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall.

The kitchen sits under the mezzanine. We used a contrast colour rather
than trying to fight the lower ceiling height and reduced light in that
part of the plan. The staircase void is given over to storage.

We chose a bevelled edge shaker door rather than a flat front. In a
lower-ceiling area the profile catches light and adds shadow detail
that a flat door would not. The stone continues down the end face of
the island, closing the detail where it meets the oak cladding.

Trelissa Barns, Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall.

Five new homes converted from a working dairy farm on a medieval farmstead outside Philleigh. The sea is less than ten minutes away.

The five barns together provide just over 12,000 sq ft (1,115 sq m) of internal space. Each has ultrafast broadband and its own vaulted double garage. A ground source system heats all five barns, with the infrastructure buried across the surrounding farmland.

This former cow barn has a 16 ft (5m) ceiling height, or 25 ft (7.5m) at the front door. This kind of volume is only realistically achievable in conversions, and as always, we took the decision to work with rather than against the existing space.
