Hammersmith United Charities Hammersmith's charity since 1618. Exceptional sheltered housing and focused grant making. Building a legacy for the people of Hammersmith.

Hammersmith United Charities invests in the people and communities in the 8 northern wards of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to tackle poverty, deprivation and disadvantage, building on our legacies, wisdom, learning and experience gained over 400 years. We support local people to build their confidence and resourcefulness, develop their own talents and skills, connect people together and strengthen relationships and neighbourliness within and across diverse communities. We achieve these aims by:

•managing vibrant sheltered housing communities for older people where residents work alongside the Charity’s gardener and horticulturalist to make safe beautiful environments for people to share and enjoy as neighbours
•funding a community based grants programme
•match funding the Wormholt & White City Big Local with the Lottery; and
•by working with local people, organisations and businesses to make Hammersmith a great place.”

ASÉ works with children and young people who are not engaging with education.

Pauline Zepherin from the CIC shares, “The programme focuses on personal development and empowers the young person to develop healthy relationships and to achieve their full potential. By building trust, we can help them to get back onto a stronger pathway, reengage with their education, see a positive future and decide that today they want to be here. It’s about empowering them to have hope so they can move forward confidently and positively transform their lives.”

“We're trying to build these young people’s confidence, build life skills and communication skills, and open their eyes to the arts. Theatre opens doors and broadens their horizons. They gain a sense of belonging.” Read our interview with Lucy Foxell, Chief Executive & Founder of White City Theatre Project: https://hamunitedcharities.org.uk/2026/09/15/white-city-theatre-project/

“Children fall through the gaps and can be blamed for the difficulties that they're presenting, when actually their behaviour is just a manifestation of the difficulties in the wider systems around them. If we can enable change in the system – the school system, the family system, and the relationship between those two systems, then lots of new possibilities open to that child, and they're no longer locked in this particular way of responding.” Read our interview with Mark Griffiths, founder of The School & Family Works, at https://hamunitedcharities.org.uk/2026/09/18/the-school-family-works/

Today is the International Day of Older Persons. More than 30% of people over 65 live alone. While many do so happily, others find themselves becoming increasingly isolated.

As Jazz Browne, CEO of Nubian Life, says, “Isolation is not simply the absence of activity; it is the absence of trusted contact. It’s about not having someone who understands the cultural references, family pressures, migration history, food, faith, humour, grief and pride that shape later life."

Nubian Life provides day care services for African and African-Caribbean residents aged 65+ in Hammersmith & Fulham, and is looking for volunteers to join its new befriending service. Find out more on our website: https://hamunitedcharities.org.uk/2026/09/28/nubian-life/

While 2 millions tonnes of food is wasted in London every year, more than 10% of Londoners are experiencing food insecurity. Back in 2017, a group of children at Old Oak Primary School decided to help tackle both issues, by providing people with free, healthy food that would have otherwise gone to waste.

Their idea grew from a weekly food stall into a CIC, Bubble & Squeak, which now feeds hundreds of people every week.
