Landlords: know your EPC exemptions

The minimum EPC rating for rental properties is set to rise from E to C, but some properties may be exempt.

The NRLA says many landlords aren't aware of the exemptions, which could be particularly important for older, harder-to-upgrade homes.

Current exemptions can include:

• Spending up to £10,000 without being able to reach the required standard
• Certain solid wall insulation cases
• Some properties worth less than £100,000

If you're a landlord, it's worth understanding the rules and checking whether an exemption could apply to your property.
