EVEREST (83 days): The Vest Pocket Camera mystery.

As a little project... I have purchased and rebuilt a 1921 VPK camera. The image of George (for his 2nd Birthday portrait) was the first on my reel of film. I need to do some more tests to understand the focussing! (Big thanks to Nik & Trick Photographic Services for supplying B/W 127 film and developing the results).

The camera is coming on my Everest pilgrimage and hopefully I will manage to take a nice 'centenary' image of Everest for the The George Mallory Foundation.

During the 1924 Everest Expedition; George Mallory was notoriously disorganised and forever losing his kit. On summit day he had even mislaid his compass!
Mallory had also forgotten his camera... Howard Somerville and Col. E.F. Norton had just returned to the North Col from their own summit attempt and after learning that George had lost his camera, Howard kindly leant him his. A little Eastman Kodak vest pocket camera. This camera gained great acclaim during the WWI as 'the Soldiers Camera' and over 1 million were produced.

The mystery: Who really climbed Everest first? Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary did it in 1953, and although George Mallory and Andrew "Sandy" Irvine perished in their attempt in 1924. The key question is, did they die on the way up or the way down? Whether they summited before dying has long been one of the greatest mysteries in mountaineering. It's been speculated that the answer could be contained in a missing camera they carried with them. As Irvine's body has yet to be formally acknowledged as found and identified it does make you wonder if a camera in his possession may help solve the mystery if the film could be developed and a summit shot revealed !

On the Cover: Two passions 'Property and Retro Cars'

A collaboration with George Nicola, the CGI Guru behind TallBox, helped shape the end result of this property. All past images were CGI 'artists impressions' by George of what could be achieved.

Today, for the first time, I can reveal photographs of the built structure. It is incredible to observe just how accurate George's vision and artwork has come to life.

Government legislation has determined that no new petrol/diesel cars can be sold in UK from 2030… we have 9 years to ensure that the UK infrastructure can support (EV) electric vehicles.

New homes will be built with a charge point and places of business, service station forecourts and drive-thru facilities are all looking at options. The greatest anxiety/stigma for EV ownership consideration, is distance travel, due to the current limitations of battery power. To address, and remove, this anxiety and give confidence to convert from fossil fuel to clean energy Charge Point Operators need to identify sites (rent or buy) that could be suitable to create a Charging Point facility. CPOs operate the charging infrastructure for the eMobility industry. They need to make sure everything is up and running today and be futureproof for tomorrow, with the capacity and scalability to manage the exponential growth of EV charging.

As Government legislation has determined that no new petrol/diesel cars can be sold in UK from 2030… we have 9 years to ensure that the UK infrastructure can support (EV) electric vehicles. BACKGROUND: Combatting ‘Range Anxiety’ New homes will be built with an EV charge point and places of bus...

LONDON WESTMINSTER: House of Lords

The last day of September completed my secondment year as MD Fine & Country –Pall Mall.

My visits to the House of Lords are, and will always be, an absolute privilege. This visit was made extra special … through the eyes of my work colleague Freya L J Melling.

Freya fully engaged with my friends and colleagues holding her own in conversation with natural ease. It was indeed a pleasure to observe just how well Freya has become a brand ambassador as she have every right to be proud of herself.

Mallory Irvine | Specialist Property Consultants have enjoyed ‘sprinkling some glitter’ in prime central to help F&C’s brand awareness and help them gain traction in the London markets. We have made many wonderful friends and will continue to support at arm’s length where we can.
