This is our own family home, an Arts and Crafts house on Bluehouse Lane in Oxted, Surrey.

It has grown by increments for decades and lost its own logic along the way. Total redevelopment sounds bigger than it is. We are not knocking anything down and starting again, we are editing what is already good, removing what got added without thought, and giving the house one clear idea from front door to garden.

It is still at design stage, and we are sharing the thinking as it develops.

We found a 1930s house in poor condition, extended piecemeal over the years so that it no longer read as a single building. There was space, but no coherence.

What the family wanted was not simply more of it, but a house that finally held together, with a downstairs that worked properly and an interior that felt like theirs.

What emerged is generous, unified, open to its garden, and built around how a modern family actually wants to live.

Before & After

A transformation that has completely changed the character of this home.

The original rear elevation has been redesigned and extended to create a lighter, more contemporary family home, with generous glazing, improved proportions and a much stronger architectural identity.

The new extension creates valuable additional living space inside, while the glazing floods the interior with natural light and opens up views across the garden. Outside, the cleaner lines and considered material palette bring the old and new together, giving the entire rear of the property a fresh new look.

A great example of how thoughtful design can transform not just how a home looks, but how it feels and functions every day.

A glimpse through to a bedroom designed to feel calm, considered and completely connected.

We created this arched opening to soften the transition into the room, while the rich timber cabinetry, warm lighting and layered textures create a wonderfully cosy feel.

A little reminder that the spaces between rooms deserve just as much thought as the rooms themselves.

It might not feel particularly chilly just yet, but autumn has officially arrived.

And with the change of season, our thoughts are turning to cosy evenings at home - warm lighting, fires on, comfortable corners and spaces designed for slowing down.

Good design isn’t just about how a home looks, but how it feels to live in throughout the seasons. And autumn might just be our favourite.

Melbourne Grove. A period semi bought out of probate, largely unmodernised and in terrible condition. It was our director's home at the time, which made it the place we tested our own thinking, a house to bring back properly and learn from.

What emerged keeps its traditional presence at the front and opens into something wholly contemporary at the rear.

We are proud of it because every decision here was one we were willing to live with ourselves.

Extending a home in Woking, Surrey wasn’t just about creating more space - it’s about making that space feel better too. ☀️

For this ground floor kitchen and living extension, we focused on bringing natural light deep into the heart of the home, transforming it into a bright, open and welcoming space for everyday family life.

Thoughtful design, more space and a whole lot more light.

Woodland Drive, East Horsley - a 1930s house, reimagined for modern family life.

Location | East Horsley, Surrey
Scale | 3,380 sq.ft.

Over the years, the original house had been extended piecemeal, leaving plenty of space but little cohesion. Our brief was to bring it all back together - creating a home that felt generous, unified and connected to the garden.

We created a large open-plan kitchen, dining and relaxed living space, a generous new master suite and significant additional space throughout. Outside, we extended the transformation into the garden, with new landscaping, a pool and separate pool house.

One house, one coherent vision - designed around the way this family lives.

We see architecture as a means, not an end. Your home should quietly enable the life you want to lead - the meals, the rest, the focus, the togetherness.

That is what drives every project we take on, and what our monthly explorations below are rooted in.
