The good name of Chattertons has been established since 1893 and we are extremely proud of our roots and love to talk about our history, we have a small selection of historical pieces from our more recent past, dispayed at our New Eltham office. The business was acquired by Michael Healey (FNAEA) in 1981 and his vision to offer great service from a company that could be trusted is as strong today

as the day he set out to continue the story of Chattertons. These days the business of Estate Agency has changed so much particularly with the inception of the internet which has made the process of buying, selling and renting exciting, easy and instantaneous. At Chattertons we embrace all the modern methods mixed in with good old fashioned service. Although we have been in New Eltham for many years we moved to our current site at the beginning of 2010, occupying the corner of Footscray Road and Avery Hill Road right opposite New Eltham mainline station, for new visitors to the area and locals alike we are a business who cannot be missed. At New Eltham we have a strong sales department dealing with all residential property needs, covering a wide area from New Eltham, Mottingham, Eltham, Sidcup and Chislehurst. We are capable of reaching out to a very wide catchment as our location is such a strong one on a busy junction, we receive enquiries from a large audience. Our lettings department is also based at New Eltham and we are able to help with all letting needs, again covering a wide area due to the prominence of our office.

Give Nature a Helping Hand This Summer

June is the perfect month to create a pollinator friendly garden that is full of colour, life, and natural beauty

As gardens burst into bloom, June is the ideal time to welcome more wildlife into your outdoor space. Creating a pollinator friendly garden not only looks wonderful but also helps support bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects that play a vital role in the environment.

The good news is that making your garden more attractive to pollinators is simple. Start by choosing nectar rich plants such as lavender, salvia, foxgloves, and cosmos. These colourful flowers provide a valuable food source while adding beauty and interest throughout the summer months.

Planting in groups creates a stronger visual impact and makes it easier for pollinators to find the flowers they need. Mixing different varieties also helps ensure there is something in bloom throughout the season.

You can take things a step further by providing a shallow dish of water with a few pebbles for insects to land on safely. Leaving a small wild corner of the garden can also create valuable shelter for wildlife.

The rewards are immediate. A pollinator friendly garden feels more vibrant, with bees buzzing, butterflies fluttering, and flowers thriving thanks to increased pollination. It creates a wonderful connection with nature right outside your door.

By making a few simple changes this June, you can create a garden that is beautiful, lively, and beneficial to local wildlife. It is a rewarding improvement that everyone can enjoy throughout the summer.

Improving Affordability Could Boost Buyer Demand

As mortgage affordability improves, experts expect more buyers to enter the market, creating positive conditions for sellers in the years ahead

Improving mortgage affordability is expected to play a key role in supporting the UK housing market over the coming years, offering encouraging news for homeowners looking to sell.

According to the latest forecast from Savills, easing borrowing conditions are likely to help more buyers enter the market. As affordability improves, many prospective purchasers who may have delayed moving decisions could find themselves in a stronger position to proceed.

For sellers, increased buyer activity is often a positive sign. A larger pool of motivated purchasers can help maintain market momentum, increase competition for desirable properties and support healthy transaction levels across the housing market.

The prospect of improving affordability is particularly significant after a period of higher mortgage rates, which placed additional pressure on many buyers. As financial conditions become more favourable, confidence is expected to strengthen, helping to unlock demand and support future market activity.

While local conditions will always vary, the broader outlook suggests a market that is well positioned to benefit from greater accessibility and renewed buyer confidence.

For homeowners considering a future move, the prospect of more active buyers entering the market provides another reason to feel optimistic about the years ahead and the opportunities that a strengthening market could create.

Cheers to a Stylish Home Drinks Station

June is the perfect time to create a home drinks station, adding convenience, character, and a touch of luxury to everyday living

With summer in full swing and guests more likely to drop by, June is the ideal month to create a dedicated drinks station at home. It is a simple improvement that adds both style and practicality, making everyday refreshments feel that little bit more special.

The beauty of a drinks station is that it can fit almost anywhere. An unused corner of the kitchen, a sideboard in the dining room, or a small section of worktop can be transformed into an organised and attractive space. The key is to keep everything you need within easy reach.

For tea and coffee lovers, consider displaying mugs, canisters, and your favourite blends in a neat and stylish way. If you enjoy entertaining, you could include glassware, soft drinks, and refreshing summer ingredients such as fresh fruit and herbs.

Adding personal touches helps bring the area to life. Decorative trays, small plants, and attractive storage jars create a welcoming display that feels both practical and inviting.

A home drinks station is not just about appearance. It makes hosting easier, keeps worktops organised, and creates a focal point that family and visitors will naturally gravitate towards.

By creating a drinks station this June, you are adding a little everyday luxury to your home. It is a simple project that looks great, improves organisation, and helps you make the most of the relaxed summer season.

Rental Supply Shortage Creates Positive Outlook for Landlords

Strong tenant demand and limited housing stock continue to support rental values, offering encouraging opportunities for landlords across the UK

A continuing shortage of rental properties across the UK is providing encouraging news for landlords, with demand from tenants remaining strong and available stock struggling to keep pace.

The imbalance between supply and demand means many landlords are benefiting from high levels of interest when bringing properties to market. In many areas, well-presented homes are attracting enquiries quickly, helping to reduce void periods and maintain occupancy levels. This can provide greater stability and confidence for landlords looking to maximise the performance of their investments.

Strong tenant demand is also helping to support rental values, creating favourable conditions for those seeking long-term returns from their property portfolios. While the rental market continues to evolve, the fundamental need for quality rental accommodation remains as strong as ever, underpinning ongoing opportunities for landlords.

For investors considering entering the buy-to-let sector, current market conditions highlight the importance of a well-managed property in a location with sustained demand. Existing landlords, meanwhile, may find reassurance in the resilience of the rental market despite wider economic uncertainties.

Although landlords must continue to navigate changing regulations and compliance requirements, the persistent shortage of available rental homes demonstrates that demand for rental accommodation remains robust. For many landlords, this represents a positive outlook and a reminder of the enduring value of residential property investment.

House Prices Forecast to Rise Over the Next Five Years

New research from Savills suggests homeowners could benefit from continued property value growth, reinforcing confidence in the long-term outlook for the housing market

Homeowners and prospective sellers have been given a welcome boost following the release of a new five-year housing market forecast from Savills.

Despite ongoing economic uncertainty and changing market conditions, the property consultancy expects UK house prices to continue rising over the coming years. The forecast points to steady long-term growth, highlighting the resilience of the housing market and the enduring appeal of homeownership.

While short-term fluctuations are a normal part of any market cycle, the longer-term outlook remains positive. For homeowners, this provides reassurance that property continues to represent a valuable asset capable of delivering growth over time.

The forecast is particularly encouraging for those considering a future move. Sellers who are not planning to relocate immediately may benefit from additional value growth in the years ahead, potentially strengthening their position when the time comes to market their property.

The findings also reinforce the importance of taking a long-term view when assessing the housing market. While headlines often focus on monthly movements and short-term trends, forecasts such as this demonstrate that the wider trajectory for UK property remains positive.

For sellers seeking confidence in the future, Savills' latest outlook offers a reassuring reminder of the strength and resilience of the nation's housing market.
