This Beautiful Marylebone Restaurant Has A Bonus Basement Bakery 🥐🍞🥖

You’ll enter into a gorgeous restaurant, but there’s also a lovely bakery hidden away downstairs! The restaurant prides itself on using absolutely no refined sugar, and they try to limit their use of dairy and gluten, too. Dishes include the likes of homemade gluten-free gnocchi, BBQ lamb chops, and honey roasted salmon with accompaniments I’ve never heard of before.

There’s also a cracking breakfast menu, featuring eggs in all its forms. There are omelettes, dippy eggs, poached eggs on toast… they’ve even got egg tacos! For brunch, there’s more of the same – but you can also opt for salads, a falafel burger or a juicy sirloin steak.

Kill The Closest Snake is a new indoor plant and cactus shop hidden away at Hackney Downs Studios. They share the space with Brunswick East Bakehouse and craft beer company ‘All Good Beer’ – so you can brunch, booze and buy your next baby all in the same building.

2. Conservatory Archives, Hackney and Clapton
You may already know about their Hackney Road store which, although is cute, is a bit of a squeeze. But did you know that they also have a second, much bigger, store on Lower Clapton Road, with A CAFÉ?! Here you can drink coffee amongst all the gorgeous plants, and it’s just as Instagrammable as you might think.

3. Forest, East Dulwich and Deptford
Forest is an online plant store with a couple of IRL sites in south London. They try to stock only easy-to-care-for plants, and they promise to teach you how to look after them – so the risk of you killing them is, in theory, pretty low. They also offer a free potting service at both stores.

4. Botanique Workshop, Exmouth Market and Stoke Newington
Botanique Workshop is a blooming brilliant shop for cacti and succulent fanatics. They have gorgeous plants, lots of wonderful handmade crafty bits and, well, sometimes there are dogs *pricks ears up and tilts head*. Their handmade, own-branded products are made during shop hours, either at the counter or downstairs in their studio.

This South East London Sewage Station Might Smell BUT It Is Surprisingly Beautiful!

Known as the ‘Cathedral of Sewage’, Crossness Pumping Station first opened after The Great Stink of 1858. To summarise, this public disaster came about after commissioners were unable to reach an agreement regarding the city’s sewage systems. This meant that the Thames became heavily polluted and, combined with the unusually warm weather that year, it created a putrid smell – a smell so bad that it almost drove MPs out of the Palace of Westminster.

Eventually, the Victorians recognised that they should probably get their act together and come up with a plan to de-stink the city, so they reviewed Joseph Bazalgette’s plan. The plan consisted of two sewers, as far away from the city centre as possible, that would drain sewage eastward and allow clean water to flow into the river. Crossness Pumping Station opened in April 1865 and was a fully functional, and frankly stunning, sewage station until the 1950s. After the site fell into disrepair, a group of volunteers kept the engines looking lovely, and funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the English Heritage have meant that you can still visit today.

It sadly had to close recently due to asbestos being found in the Beam Engine House back in 2017, but it finally reopened this year!

The Ravishingly Run-Down Terrace In London You Need To Explore!!

You may not have heard the news, but Hampstead really is rather lovely. With cute shops, fancy coffee shops, and Hampstead Heath next door, you’re spoiled for choice on a visit here. However, the most beautiful part of Hampstead is also the most criminally underrated: the Hampstead Pergola. Aside from offering lovely views over the Heath and Hampstead Hill Gardens, it also happens to be a splendiferous spot for a wander.

If you think this place looks like the frivolous construct of someone with too much money, you’d be spot on. It was commissioned by Lord Leverhulme, who made his fortune selling soap. One summer’s eve in 1904, he decided that his nearby mansion needed an extravagant terrace, to host garden parties and lazy summer nights. So, being filthy rich, he decided to build it.

Though beautiful, Hampstead Pergola suffered in the aftermath of Leverhulme’s death and the onset of World War 2. By the time the City of London took it over in 1989, the place was almost falling apart. Resurrection is still underway, but in the faded glory of the pillars and arches, you’ll find a serenely beautiful spot with views aplenty.

But there’s one place that stands out from the crowd, as beautiful as it is tranquil: the bombed-out ruins of the church of St Dunstan in the East. Trees grow through windows and vines wind themselves around walls of St Dunstan in the East, whilst palm trees make for positively tropical addition. All in all, it’s a gorgeously green spot when the sun shines.

Sure, most people wouldn’t put Neasden on their London bucket list - but that’s where they’d be wrong. This north-west neighbourhood is actually home to one of the most breathtaking buildings in the city. Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a beautiful, traditional Hindu temple carved entirely out of stone. For a time, when it was first completed in the mid-90s, it was the largest Hindu temple outside of India.

Amongst the endless skyscrapers rising to the clouds, it’s easy to forget that London is a whopping 47% green space. That percentage grew a little more this summer, as The Tide opened in July. A beautifully-designed linear park, it’s now furnishing the Greenwich Peninsula with a prime spot for riverside sunset viewing.

Ronnie Scott’s, Soho’s legendary jazz club, is throwing a 6 hour street party next weekend 🎷

Back in the day, Ronnie Scott’s played host to the likes of Miles Davis, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald. And now, 60 years later, it’s celebrating its diamond year with an afternoon of jazz! The iconic music venue will spill out onto Frith Street on July 20 for lots of fun and revelry – and it’s all totally free!

There’ll be hotly anticipated performances from P*e Wee Ellis and his Funk Assembly, Nubya Garcia, and seven-piece Latin jazz band Eliane & La Evolución, as well as DJs to fill the gaps between gigs.
