The early G-Class convertible models are among the rarest and most collectible variants ever produced, combining the legendary off-road capability of the original G-Wagon with the unique appeal of an open-top configuration. Right-hand drive examples are exceptionally scarce, making this vehicle a highly distinctive collector’s piece.

Finished in black paintwork in excellent condition, the vehicle presents beautifully and retains the classic presence that made the early G-Wagon such an icon. It sits on original 16” Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels with excellent tyres and features the robust 4-wheel-drive system paired with power-assisted steering, offering both capability and usability.

The vehicle has covered just 103, 000 miles, which is modest for a vehicle of this age and engineering pedigree. It has been recently serviced, including a new battery and brake maintenance, ensuring it remains ready to drive and enjoy.

Owning this classic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon 3. 0D Convertible is a truly special experience. I purchased the vehicle in London in 2019 after recognising how unique it was. The combination of the iconic early G-Class design, the open-top configuration, and the durable 3. 0 diesel engine makes it unlike almost anything else on the road. Wherever it goes, it attracts attention and appreciation from enthusiasts, collectors and those familiar with the heritage of the early G-Wagon.

One of my favourite aspects of the vehicle is the way it combines classic Mercedes-Benz engineering with a rugged, timeless character. With the roof down, it offers a completely different driving experience compared with a standard G-Wagon – open, distinctive and full of personality – while still retaining the legendary 4WD capability that made the original G-Class famous around the world.

Early G-Class vehicles have become increasingly sought after globally, particularly rare early models and convertible variants. As collectors continue to recognise the historical importance and limited production of these vehicles, well-preserved examples are becoming harder to acquire.

Opportunities to acquire a right-hand drive early convertible G-Class of this rarity are exceptionally limited, making this not only an enjoyable classic to own and drive, but also a distinctive long-term collector’s asset.
