“All limits are self-imposed.” Icarus
As we get to the end of my home renovation, just snagging left (arghh), time to start reflecting on the journey.
1)Was it easy managing individual trades?
No, pain in the arse. More hassle than it is worth. Don't do it unless you must. I'll do another post on that one day.
2)Did the project take longer than expected and cost more than planned?
Yes, life took over so had to outsource more jobs than planned and waiting for good trades took time!!!
3)Did i make mistakes in my areas of the renovation?
Yeah, of course, i am a finance guy after all. So it was a massive learning curve.
4) Do i regret not giving the reno to a builder? HELL NO!
Why you may ask, sounds terrible right?
For those that don't know me, i like to learn...I like to push the boundaries of what i can acheive...i like to grow and you know what, makes you proud when you reflect how much you have acheived! Getting hands on and into the detail has made me a better developer and landlord for sure!
The amount of times on this project i heard "why don't you just get a trade to do that?" or "why didn't you just get a builder to do it all?"
So if i can leave you with 2 takeaways:
1) Each experience shapes us, so don't be afraid to try something new and making mistakes is part of that journey!
2) Don't listen to others, push those mental boundaries!
