CSR is pleased to announce the successful completion of improvement works at the prestigious Charterhouse Estate. CSR has lifted, re-laid, and extended a section of York stone paving within the estate gardens. This enhancement provides an elegant new setting designed to accommodate wedding photography during the upcoming summer season.

As part of the project, CSR collaborated with specialist partners to replace an existing set of manual gates with a modern automatic system. The new installation was carefully selected and designed to remain sympathetic to the heritage character of the surrounding architecture.

These upgrades reflect CSR's ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality craftsmanship while preserving the historic integrity of the sites we work.

CSR specialists can also help your property with coating removal! You can see how the painted brickwork is failing due to water ingress and the arch has slipped becoming a critical structural issue.

After carefully protecting the existing windows a chemical poultice was applied for 2-3 days to soften the coatings. Three applications and DOFF cleaning reveals why the facade was originally painted - 2 different types of brick!

Our craftesmen got to work reproducing the original tuck pointing and once redecorated the house has been transformed. Fit for another 50 years!

After we had restored the brickwork to our clients façade they decided to take advantage of the scaffolding and do some repairs to their roof and velux skylights…Sadly the roof was in a lot worse condition than they thought and had no insulation so we carefully remove the slates and installed insulation between the rafters. A new breathable membrane followed and new slates, all topped off with a new velux skylight and a modern dry fix ridge tile system – this system used mechanical stainless steel fixings in place of the traditional mortar . It is far more effective (flexible) and durable than mortar… a good for another 50 years !!

This property had been encased in a horrendous rock hard cement render and our client wanted to restore the brickwork to its original condition.

Removing the half failed render was not too difficult but underneath it we found a ‘splatter coat’ of neat cement that could only be removed by very careful use of abrasive pads.

After the bricks had the cement ‘splatter coat’ removed they were back to their original new colour, which the client thought was too bright and not in keeping with the age of the property. So we carefully tinted the bricks back, using organic colouring to give them a patina to match their age, prior to repointing with a lime mortar.

The result is a wonderful looking, maintenance free façade that should be good for the next 50 years !

This Victorian built garden wall had been neglected for a considerable time and had been poorly ‘patch’ repaired with cement based mortar which had caused the brick edges to spall away. As is common with garden walls, they often do not have the most substantial of footings or foundations, and in this case there had been some ‘settlement’ and due to the rigid nature of the cement mortar the wall had cracked.

Capital Stone carefully removed all the remaining cement mortar, replaced damaged and missing bricks, and repointed with a lime based mortar chosen. The inherent flexibility of the lime mortar should mean that any future movement of the wall should not result in cracked brickwork, and will last many years into the future.
