The government just announced the biggest shake-up to the homebuying process in years, and honestly, it’s long overdue.

From next year, sellers (and their agents) will need to pull together a proper information pack at the point of listing the condition, chain status and leasehold costs so buyers aren’t going in blind. Binding agreements will also kick in earlier, so sales are less likely to collapse months down the line after everyone’s already spent time, money and a lot of energy.

The average purchase currently takes 120 days. One in three sales falls through. These changes are designed to fix both.
