I was invited to value an original Barbican apartment.
Daniel, the owner, was considering whether to sell or refurbish. Rather than rushing to market, he decided to create something truly special.
The Barbican Estate is hallowed ground for Brutalist architecture, making a Type-20 apartment remodel both an incredible privilege and a unique challenge.
The result is one of the most beautiful Barbican refurbishments I’ve seen, respecting the building’s heritage whilst creating a home able to perfectly balance comfortable modern living incorporating basic amenities, washing machine, dishwasher yet still remaining true to the architect’s original vision of the space.
As the project got underway, it became clear how difficult it can be for owners of architecturally significant homes to find the right advice, designer and contractor.
