Well it’s that time of year again. Cold outside, warm inside. It only means one thing.

Condensation

1) Buy a dehumidifier 10-15 liters tank. and run it upstairs in the hallway if possible. Do not operate with any windows or doors open.

2) Every morning open the windows around the house with the doors wide open and push the moist air through the house.On wetter mornings maybe less time as sometimes external humidity may be high on cloudy rainy days. You may bring more moisture inside.

4) Close all windows after an hour. No longer as you’ll cool the rooms down to much and shock them later in the evening when you switch the heat on.

5) Dry clothes(if you have to) in the bathroom with the door closed and window open. Isolate your dirty deeds.

6) Ensure your cooker hood is ducted and vented out of the house. Not these easy fit filter systems.

7) Ensure you have an extractor fan in the bathroom and is working effectively.

8 Buy 2 humidistats on line and fit one in the living room and one in the hallway (or upstairs landing in a 2 story). Monitor your humidity and know exactly the moisture levels around your home. 30-50% RH normal. 50-6%RH with 60+ is to high and you should take action and open your windows.

9) Manually remove all moisture from your windows in the morning.Opening windows to dry your windows can take a prolonged time to dry and may be counterproductive as you will cool the room down to much. Best way is the hand held electronic window squeegees. Just bought one..👏

Folks, just a quick update. With working flat out as usual we missed our anniversary date on the 10th June. We, as a family have been running the business for 15 years. We thank each and every customer who has made this happen

With the business thriving we have now 5 members of staff including 2 of my sons on the books.

We have now decided that the business has outgrown me to something of a giant in the trade. Again I thank the late Bill Lowry for helping me plant the seed and for our customers who made it happen. I was operating as a sole trader but have now decided to go to a Limited company.

It’s now not Steven North trading as North Coast Damp Proofing.
