The question isn’t why should you make a , it’s why wouldn’t you?
When you make one, you decide who inherits what. But if you don’t, then the government will decide for you.
With the right will and good planning, you can:
1. Protect your estate from avoidable loss to unintended others wherever possible such as authorities and government departments
2. Protect your beneficiaries from loss of inheritance wherever possible to others including an ex, future spouses and unintended circumstances such as bankruptcy
3. Protect yourself and your family from avoidable stress, expense and bureaucratic intervention in the event you ever lose your ability to make your own decisions
4. Protect your executor(s) from the stress and demands of carrying out their duties at a difficult time and also minimise their exposure to personal responsibility and legal liability of their executor position
