Red Bear goes shopping …. For someone else! Looking forward to seeing these planted, particularly the larger specimens and multi-stems.

As the Mistletoe dries and shrivels there is a new welcome at Red Bear’s front door; the scent of Sarcococca hookeriana (Sweet Box) which is particularly welcoming on this wet grey 2nd January! Flowering so early this evergreen shrub really cheers visitors (and me). Not native but of interest to invertebrates when they venture out it will produce shiny black berries later in the year. The scent can also be enjoyed by passers by in our small front garden on the Edwardian terraced street. It can be a little overpowering when in full blossom but oh so worth a spot in the garden.
