In a (free to register) CPD on Zoom next week (Wednesday 9th July), Ric will be discussing how emergency shelters and temporary accommodation — when well-designed, modular, and sustainable — still have an important role in the wider ‘Housing First’ approach, providing immediate, dignified spaces while people wait for access to permanent housing.

We have a secret ingredient in our homes to help keep them cool…

Well, not that secret — but it is hidden inside our factory-made building panels: a breathable outer layer of natural wood fibre insulation.

Unlike synthetic boards, wood fibre has excellent thermal mass — meaning it slows the movement of heat through the structure. During hot weather, it helps buffer peak temperatures, absorbing excess warmth before it reaches the inside. Then as it cools, that heat is gradually released. The result? A calmer, more stable indoor environment, even during summer heatwaves.

We place it on the outside of our structural frame, which also helps reduce thermal bridging — further improving comfort and energy performance.

Yes, it costs a little more than basic rigid boards — but it pays back over time in lower energy use, better comfort, and long-term durability.

If you’re working on a project and want to avoid overheating issues from day one — get in touch. We’d love to help you design something that’s not just sustainable, but genuinely comfortable to live in.

We were the first to set up yesterday... or did we just miss it... 😬😆

Trusting we’re just early… our stand is almost ready for Housing 2025, opening this Tuesday at Manchester Central.

You’ll find us on Stand E39, right in the heart of the exhibition:

We’re focusing on housing solutions for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness — from emergency shelters to transitional homes — plus a full section through our modular building system.

If you’re attending, come and say hello — or just drop by for a look.

Next week at Housing 2025 in Manchester, we’ll be sharing our three-stage approach — from emergency shelter to temporary accommodation to sustainable long-term homes — supporting people at every stage of need.

It’s a pathway shaped by the principles of ‘Housing First’: where a secure home is ideally the starting point, not the end goal. But we also recognise that, sometimes, the most urgent need is simply to get people into safe, secure accommodation — fast.

We’ll also be presenting some new CGIs of our shelter, created by the brilliant team at Our Studio Ltd.

Come say hello if you’re attending! We’ll be on Stand E39, right in the centre of the exhibition.

We’ve been developing housing for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless — and our latest designs are now ready for manufacture.

They fall into three key categories: (1) Emergency Shelters – providing safe, secure refuge to meet our most basic human need, as Maslow identified; (2) Temporary Accommodation – a short-term stepping stone toward greater stability; and (3) Sustainable Homes – more permanent, low-carbon solutions that remain affordable.

𝟭𝟬. 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀

For every £100 spent in volume housebuilding, £21 is spent locally. Custom Build is more than double this figure. This is true for our homes too. Although our panel system is off-site manufactured in Manchester, we use local construction tradespeople to assemble our home(s).

To support smaller Custom Build developers, if a project consists of no more than 9 dwellings and is on a site that has an area no larger than 0.5 hectares, then it is exempt from the BNG requirement.

The new policy supports ‘mixed tenure sites’ that include ‘plots sold for custom or self-build’ (Section 5, Paragraph 71). Paragraph 73 also states ‘small and medium sized sites can make an important contribution to meeting the housing requirement of an area, are essential for Small and Medium Enterprise house builders to deliver new homes, and are often built-out relatively quickly’.

Part of the Self and Custom Build Housing Act 2015 requires local authorities to ensure there is adequate land provision for those who want to build their own homes. Therefore, providing custom build homes should be welcomed and supported by the local authority.
