A lot of designers have seen a drop in enquiries since the invention of AI, which is perfectly valid when you see what amazing ideas and visuals AI can create.
BUT, the creative look is 5% of the actual job. For anyone who has ever run a project, you know the work that goes into the behind the scenes stuff that clients very rarely see.
AI is a wonderful tool, but that’s exactly it. It’s a tool. It cannot execute a project and fulfil the install like an interior designer can.
So fret not. If clients are using mid journey, Claude, ChatGPT or any of the other multitude of programmes out there, then let them.
They’ll call you when the pretty tiles they ordered are a sloppy death trap when wet, or the copper shower turns green, or the LED lights in the kitchen flicker because they chose the wrong driver.
They’ll call you when the electrician is arguing with the plumber whose responsibility the positioning of the towel rail spur was.
They’ll call you when the marble worktop they chose for the gin bar is stained with lemon juice after the first use.
They’ll call you when the windows open in the wrong direction.
They’ll call you when they want trade discounts from companies you’ve spent years building relationships with.
They’ll call you. And if they don’t, they’re not worth your time, your knowledge or your experience.
