Of all the amazing local events that happen in Wirksworth every year, Sunday saw my favourite - Wirksworth Wizarding Day! 🧙‍♀️🪄

A celebration of all things Harry Potter, the whole town comes alive with witches and wizards, owls, steam trains, themed windows, food and drinks, art and craft stalls, activities, workshops, story telling etc., etc., The event also raises money for local charities and youth groups.

Unfortunately I was too busy enjoying the event with Freya and catching up with friends to get any photos so do check out

The day ended with another glorious sunset which I can't resist sharing - magical!

One of the first jobs to get done was the planting of over 200 native mixed hedging trees and this year we have the first fruits of our labour - hawthorn, blackthorn and elder berries will provide food for the birds and little animals this winter and maybe some sloe gin or elderberry w**e for us next year...

Wow! What a summer!
The weather has been incredible and we've had back to back bookings, which is exactly what we wanted of course, but it does mean that time has flown by and getting back into the school-run routine also means September has disappeared too, I can't believe it's almost October!
And what a beautiful sunset to end the summer with...

We have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming all our guests (especially some familiar faces) and have continued to receive some lovely reviews - it gives us a real buzz to know that guests have thoroughly enjoyed their stay and appreciate all the time and energy we put into getting the lodges looking their best.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and we hope to welcome more of you back again in the not-too-distant future (watch this space for an autumn announcement! 🤫)

We recently hired a couple of double kayaks on Cromford canal from Peaks and Paddles.
We met Chris at Cromford Wharf for the briefing then thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing paddle on the canal for an hour, taking in the lovely scenery, chasing dragonflies and spotting the dinosaurs along the route!

Located just a couple of miles away at Cromford Wharf next door to Cromford Mills.

This was supposed to be showing off our new picnic bench, positioned to enjoy the view closer to the woodland.

However, Sox has recently decided that she likes to come on a wander in the field with us so she definitely stole the show!

Following some useful feedback from guests we have upgraded our air fryers!

The original ones were very small (just 2L) and as the lodges don't have ovens, it seems only right that guests are able to cook more using the air fryer.

So, now each lodge has a fancy new dual cook totalling 10L capacity, as well as a two burner induction hob, microwave and toaster...

I can't believe we've been open for a year already!
And we've been so busy over the last few weeks that we missed our opening anniversary, so it's been one year and a bit 🤦‍♀️
Thought we'd celebrate with a delicious slice of cake from Willow Blossom who are also celebrating their first year here in beautiful Wirksworth 😊

What was once an over-grazed "green desert" is starting to show signs of improvement...
After the building work was complete, we seeded the bare soil with mixed grasses and clover, to help give the biodiversity of the site a boost.

We let most of the grass grow long but the clover likes the mown paths where the grass is shortest.

I'm so pleased that foxgloves are starting to take off along the field edges - the bees love the foxglove and clover flowers!
