Walking into a client’s home for the first time can feel like a big moment for both of us.

People often tell me how anxious they feel before I arrive.
They are worried about being judged.
Embarrassed about the space.
Unsure what to expect.

But here’s something that doesn’t get said enough.

I feel it too.🤗

Not in the same way, of course, but there is always that moment of the unknown. A new environment, a new person, and the responsibility to support them in the right way.

Every home is different. Every person is different.

We usually start as strangers, both a little unsure, and over time, we find a rhythm that works.

I had a client recently greet me with, “Is that the Rachel we love?” and it made me smile, because I remember those early sessions where we were both still finding our feet. tiptoeing around each other, nervous and unsure.

So if you are feeling nervous about letting someone into your home, that is completely understandable.

Just know, you will not be the only one stepping into something new.

If you’ve been thinking about getting support but keep putting it off, you’re not alone. You can find out more about how I work over on my website. (link in the Bio)

I currently support clients across Lancashire, including Blackpool, Lytham, Fylde, Wyre, Sefton, Southport and Preston, and can also connect you with trusted members of my team.

Today is the full pink moon, and apparently it is all about releasing what you have outgrown.

And whether you believe in that or not…
it is actually a really helpful way to think about clutter.

Because most of what we hold onto is not just “stuff”

It is:
Who we used to be
Who we thought we might become
What we feel we should keep

Decluttering is not about being ruthless
It is about being honest

What still fits your life now?
And what are you holding onto out of habit, guilt, or “just in case”?

You do not have to do it all today
But you can start by noticing

So I’m curious…

What feels like it no longer belongs in your life anymore?

Most people think organising is about neat cupboards and labelled boxes.

And sometimes it is.
But more often, it looks like:
Sitting with someone who feels completely overwhelmed
Helping them make decisions they’ve avoided for years
Knowing when to pause, and when to gently move forward
Working in spaces that are far from picture perfect

This is the part no one really talks about.
And it’s the part most people don’t feel prepared for.

Clutter Compass was created to teach you how to handle real-life situations, not just ideal ones.
Because knowing what to do in the moment is what makes the difference.

If this resonates with you, and you’ve ever wondered if you could do this work too, you’re not alone.

Clutter Compass is where we share what’s really involved in becoming a professional organiser, and how you can take your first steps.

You can explore more on the website. www.cluttercompass.co.uk

Anyone who has survived assembling flat pack furniture while sorting the packaging into recycling categories probably has hidden organising talents.

And if you have ever created a system in your own home that everyone else immediately ignores… welcome to one of the great training grounds of professional organising.

Sometimes the skills that shape a new direction in life are the ones you have been using all along without realising their value.

If any of this feels familiar, it might be worth paying attention to that small voice that says, “I could do this.”

With the right guidance and support, those everyday abilities can become something far more purposeful, both for you and for the people you help.

If you are curious, we’ve written a blog exploring the skills you may already have, it might just connect a few dots.

You can read it here: https://cluttercompass.co.uk/skills_you_already_have_to_become_a_professional_organiser/https://cluttercompass.co.uk/skills_you_already_have_to_become_a_professional_organiser/

One thing I see again and again in people’s homes is this.

There is simply too much stuff for the space available.

Most homes will naturally fill to the capacity we give them. Cupboards, drawers, spare rooms, lofts. If there is space, it often gets filled. That is human nature.

Yet the way people speak about themselves when they feel overwhelmed by their home can be incredibly harsh.

“I don’t know how I’ve let it get this bad.”
“I’m so embarrassed.”
“I should have sorted this years ago.”

But very rarely does clutter appear overnight.

There is usually a reason.

Sometimes it follows a downsize, where a lifetime of belongings suddenly needs to fit into a smaller space.

Sometimes it happens after the death of a parent, when treasured possessions come into the home but there hasn’t yet been the time or emotional space to sort through them.

Sometimes it creeps in quietly after illness, caring responsibilities, a new baby, or simply a life that has become too busy.

When life takes your time and energy, managing your home often slips down the priority list.

And that is completely understandable.

Bringing in support can be the catalyst for change. Not because you have failed, but because sometimes having another pair of calm, practical hands helps you move forward.

If you are feeling stuck or overwhelmed by your home, please know this:

You are not alone, and you are certainly not the only person who has found themselves in this position.

Change is possible, and it often starts with a single step.

Sometimes the problem isn’t clutter.
It’s simply too much stuff for the space you have.

Yet when people feel overwhelmed by their homes, the way they speak about themselves can be incredibly harsh.

“I don’t know how I’ve let it get this bad.”
“I’m so embarrassed.”
“I should have sorted this years ago.”

But clutter rarely appears overnight.

Sometimes it follows a downsize.
Sometimes it comes after clearing a parent’s home.
Sometimes it creeps in quietly after illness, caring responsibilities, or simply a life that has become too busy.

Life happens. And when your time and energy are stretched, managing your home often slips down the list.

That doesn’t mean you have failed.

Sometimes bringing in support is simply the catalyst for change.

✨ If your home is starting to feel overwhelming, please know you are not alone, and things can change with the right support.

You can care deeply about someone and still say no.

You can want someone to succeed and still recognise they are not ready.

You can be kind and boundaried at the same time.

Professional support only works when both sides are willing

Boundaries are not a lack of care, they are what make meaningful support possible

New Blog Post

This month I have been reflecting on my monthly Theme, Love it or Leave it... and I don't mean my husband!

For those who know me well, I have always been the family archivist, who holds onto things because
* They don't have enough storage in their home
* They are downsizing but no one wants their stuff, so I took it to spare their feelings.
* It may be useful one day ( yes even professional organisers get bitten by this cliche)
* Or I simply got too busy to deal with it so it stayed, gathering dust and recriminations.

In addition to this I have been struck lately but the incredible growth of consumerism. I go into so many homes stacked high with impulse purchases, online deliveries and the results of social promotions. Everything new, shiny and designed to improve your home and life.

But what if there was another way, I call it shopping your own home. In this latest blog I explore ways you can fall in love with your own home and all it's contents without needing to spend a penny.

Let me know your thoughts? How do you avoid over consumerism

If you’re waiting to feel “ready” to declutter… this is your sign that ready is a myth.

Most people start not because they feel motivated, but because they’re tired of carrying the weight of it all.

You don’t need a dramatic reset.
You’re allowed a gentle one.

I’ve written a blog that talks about why starting slowly actually works better, especially when you’re overwhelmed.

👉 The link’s there if you want to read. No pressure.
