A Renaissance Echo for Baltersan

Some years ago, I found this beautifully carved oak panel for sale, and I could not leave it behind.
What first drew me to it was not only its apparent late Elizabethan character, but how strongly it reminded me of the decorative panels at Baltersan Castle itself.

The flowing scrollwork, floral forms, symmetry, and Renaissance spirit seem to belong to the same artistic language that was alive when Baltersan was built in 1584.
I cannot claim a direct connection, but the resemblance moved me. Perhaps that is why I always hoped this piece might one day find its way to Baltersan.

Looking at it now, I also notice forms that seem to suggest the letters A and E.
A for Angelo, the present custodian.
E for Egidia Blair, whose story and seal still echo through Baltersan’s history.
Perhaps it is coincidence. Perhaps it is only the playful imagination of Renaissance ornament. But Baltersan has always been a place where stone, memory, and symbol intertwine.

One day, when the castle is restored, I hope this panel may have a place there — not as a claim, but as a conversation across centuries.

Omnia mutantur, nihil interit.
Everything changes, nothing perishes.
