As Melrose are about to embark on their 150th season at the Greenyards, we have delved into our family archive and would like to share this post about our founder James S Crawford (Jim) our current MDs grandfather and current Melrose players Donald and Douglas’ great grandfather. Sadly, Michael never knew him as he passed away in 1964 aged 55.
Three young brothers – John Crawford, (player and president MRFC) Wull Crawford and Jim Crawford (J. S. Crawford) – playing on the slope of the Gallows Brae in 1915 on the other side of, then railway track, now the bypass. Note the shape of the old leather ball, their dad was John Crawford (Jock the baker) who was the MRFC trainer. (Thanks to Uncle James Crawford for the picture).
Keep checking our website https://www.jscrawford.co.uk/ for more heritage and interesting pictures of back in the day.
