What if the walls of 61 High Street could talk? They’d have quite a story to tell. 👀

Hidden behind plasterboard for decades, our team uncovered ornate plasterwork bearing the initials “LS”, a fascinating reminder of the building’s days as Leslie’s Stores.

We’ve seen the comments. And we understand the frustration behind them.

People want a town centre with more life, fewer empty buildings and reasons to visit, work and stay. We want that for Merthyr too, and each of these projects is part of our contribution.

🏢 GGP Law
Investing in town-centre offices helps keep established businesses and their teams here. Staff coming into work and clients visiting for appointments can also support the shops, cafés and services around them.

🏡 28 Victoria Street
Two new two-bedroom apartments create homes in the heart of town. Having people living centrally brings everyday activity beyond office and shopping hours, with local businesses on their doorstep.

📍 Highfield HQ
Our own headquarters puts us right where we’re investing. It gives us a base to meet tenants, work with local trades and businesses, and oversee the projects taking shape around us.

🧘🏻‍♀️61 High Street
The future home of Align Studios will give people another reason to come into the town centre. Regular classes can bring repeat visits, introduce new customers to the area and create opportunities for neighbouring businesses.

🔨 Cefn High Street
Our project in Cefn Coed extends that investment to another local high street, with plans to bring a building back into use and create space for its next chapter.

One project won’t change everything. But more homes, active business premises and new reasons to visit all contribute to a town with more life in it.

We believe in Merthyr. And we’re putting the work in.

The team behind the transformation 👏🏼

On Friday, the Highfield team came together to celebrate the completion of the GGP Law office project, a proud moment for everyone involved.

There’s a lot of hard work behind every finished space. From the early stages through to the finishing touches, this has been a real team effort, and it’s brilliant to stand back and see it all come together.

A huge well done to our Highfield team, and a thank you to Prolec Energy Solutions , Richard Broad , David Rees Joinery , David Braithwaite , Elliot Morgan , Howdens and Mint Air Conditioning for their contributions, and to Dane and Chris for their hard work on the painting.

A thank you also to Aspire apprenticeships, who helped bring our apprentice Aaron into the Highfield team, it’s been brilliant to see him gain hands-on experience and play his part in this project. 💙

Everyone has played their part in creating a space we’re proud of 💙

Another big step forward at the new offices 👏🏼

The basement level is now complete and has been transformed into a practical staff space, with a brand new kitchen, breakout area and facilities ready for the team to use.

It’s one of those parts of a commercial renovation that might not be the most obvious from the outside, but it makes such a difference to how the building works day to day.

From an empty space to a fully finished part of the office, it’s great to see another section of the development ticked off as the whole project continues to come together.

There’s still plenty more to show from this one too… 👀

From sourcing the right opportunities to getting stuck into the work on site, this is what it looks like behind the scenes.

£12,000. Five years sitting in the portfolio. And now, it’s finally time to bring this building back to life. 👀

This Cefn High Street property was actually the first development Elliott ever personally sourced for Highfield.

At the time, the Heads of the Valleys Road works were only beginning and there was a lot of uncertainty around what that would mean for Cefn and the local high street. Rather than rush into another development while the area was already facing disruption, the decision was made to hold onto the building and wait.

Five years later, the road is complete, Highfield has successfully secured funding through the Local Growth Fund via Merthyr Council, and the next chapter can finally begin. 🏗️

The plans include extending upwards, completely redeveloping the building and creating a modern commercial space, but, as Elliott explains, one of the biggest priorities is making sure whatever eventually occupies it adds to Cefn High Street rather than competes with what’s already there.

More footfall. More investment. Another previously overlooked building given a new purpose.

And there’s plenty more to come from this one… 👀
