Unpopular opinion… Merthyr town centre isn’t dying, it’s changing. 👀

There’s no denying the town has faced its challenges, but between new businesses, investment, redevelopment and more properties being brought back into use, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes.

Regeneration doesn’t happen overnight, and there’s still a long way to go, but we think Merthyr’s town centre is evolving into something new rather than simply disappearing.

We’re interested to know what the people of Merthyr think… agree or disagree? 👇🏼

28 Victoria St. | Episode 3: The Hallway & Bathroom

In Episode 3 of our 28 Victoria Street series, Elliott takes us through the hallway and main bathroom of Apartment 2, highlighting some of the practical details and design decisions that have gone into the space.

Starting in the hallway, one of the biggest changes we’ve made across our newer developments is moving away from gas completely. The apartments at 28 Victoria Street are fully electric, helping us make our properties more environmentally conscious while also keeping things simpler for our tenants with one less utility to manage.

Apartment 2 also benefits from some additional hallway storage, alongside a fully fitted fire alarm and sprinkler system supplied and installed by an important feature that might not be the most exciting part of a development, but is one of the most important.

Then into the bathroom… 👀

We wanted this space to feel a little different from a standard rental bathroom. By introducing a separate en-suite elsewhere in the apartment, we were able to remove the need for a shower in the main bathroom and make the freestanding bath the main feature instead.

We’ve paired it with wall-integrated taps, an anthracite heated towel rail, an illuminated mirror and a recessed shelf that will eventually have its own lighting, perfect for adding those finishing touches.

We’ve also continued the marble theme from the kitchen into the bathroom with these larger-format marble-effect tiles supplied by . It’s a different look from the smaller tiles we’d usually use, but one that gives the room a much cleaner, more premium finish.

It’s these little decisions throughout a development that can completely change how the finished property feels.

Next up: the bedrooms 👀

GGP PROGRESS UPDATE ⚡️

It may not be the most glamorous part of a development, but it’s definitely one of the most important!

What started as a maze of cables has now been carefully routed, secured and connected into a new consumer unit for the commercial side of the property by our trusted electrical partners at Prolec Energy Solutions .

The second fix is still underway, with the remaining connections and final testing yet to be completed, but the difference already speaks for itself.

For us, the Highfield standard isn’t only about the parts you see once a project is finished. It’s about making sure every detail behind the scenes is organised, considered and completed properly too.

Another important step forward for GGP Law new Merthyr office. Swipe to see Prolec bring order to the chaos! ⚡️

THE BEFORE ⚡️

A maze of cables ready to be organised and connected into the new consumer unit for the commercial side of the property.

This stage might look chaotic, but every cable has a purpose and will eventually distribute power throughout GGP Law new Merthyr office.

Not quite up to the Highfield standard just yet… swipe to see Prolec Energy Solutions bring order to the chaos!

THE AFTER ⚡️

What a difference already! Our electrical partners Prolec Energy Solutions have carefully routed, secured and connected the cables into the new consumer unit, creating a far cleaner and more organised setup.

The second fix is still underway, with the remaining connections and final testing yet to be completed.

At Highfield, the finishing touches matter, even in the parts of a property you don’t usually see.

28 Victoria Street | Episode 2: The Kitchen & Living Space

In Episode 2, Elliott takes us inside the kitchen and living area, from the fully integrated kitchen and storage-focused island to the marble quartz worktops , energy-efficient heating and acoustic panelling that brings the space together.

We also take a closer look at one of the apartments’ standout features: the bifold windows overlooking Riverside Plaza. After plans for integrated balconies proved difficult to bring to life, we found a different way to open up the apartments and make the most of their location.

There’s plenty more still to show you as we bring the finished apartments to life…

It’s not always about the next project 👷‍♂️

We’re just as committed to looking after and investing in our existing portfolio.

Two of our properties in Sunnybank are currently undergoing an external refresh, protecting the properties, improving their appearance and making sure they continue to be looked after for years to come.

Building for the future, while taking care of what we already have.

Property development isn’t always the polished before & after you see at the end…

Behind every project there are unexpected problems, changing plans, old buildings full of surprises and the bigger challenge of creating something new while respecting what was already there.

But for us, it’s all part of the bigger picture, investing in Merthyr, bringing buildings back into use and playing our part in the town’s regeneration.

The challenges are part of the process. The vision stays the same.
