As identified within the initial draft local plan plan, Wi******er District is required to deliver a significant amount of new housing. Biodiversity and nitrate neutrality are a particular concern across South Hampshire due to the potential impact on the Solent. It is therefore imperative that development across Wi******er District incorporates the planting of trees at scale and protects existing landscape features which would ensure significant net biodiversity gains. A new town at Micheldever Station would secure these, helping to manage water across the area and achieve nitrate neutrality.

Over 12,500 people have now signed the local petition expressing concern over the loss of acute hospital services in Wi******er https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/stop-the-removal-of-winchester-emergency-dept-or-build-the-new-hospital-here Back in 2020, the NHS shortlisted Micheldever Station Future as an option to locate the new hospital in Wi******er district. But it was discounted by the NHS in favour of the site next to the M3 at Basingstoke following discussions with the relevant Local Planning Authorities. If you are concerned about the loss of the hospital from Wi******er District you may be interested in signing this petition. The petition is totally independent of Micheldever Station Future but our land is still available to host any major new NHS hospital services.

Our response to Wi******er City Council's December 2022 public consultation on its initial draft local plan can be found under the FAQs on our website at https://www.micheldeverstationfuture.co.uk Under the current draft plan, Wi******er District’s southern parishes are set to deliver almost 8,000 new homes. That’s around half of all homes proposed, despite the area only representing one third of the District’s population and one fifth of its area. There are also 20,000 homes of unmet need from urban South Hampshire, which may increase further the number of new homes planned in the south of the district, creating an unbalanced and unfair distribution. A new town at Micheldever Station would provide an alternative way to better balance development across the district.

Around half of committed development in the district is within the South Hampshire area, in effect meeting the overspill needs of Southampton and its urban neighbours. Micheldever Station would help meet the district’s own development needs whilst protecting the historic city and the south of the district from even more expansion. Totally unprompted participants identified Micheldever Station as a good location for growth in the district to overcome many of the pitfalls seen with recent piecemeal developments on the edge of towns and villages across the district.
