Running behind…

How can I have my tree up before December yet be behind on everything Christmas decor wise by the 4th of December?

Time is speeding away from me! Last year I had everything set and ready for the 1st. My weekend away followed by storm Arwen has put a spanner in my Christmas preparations.

This photo is a throwback to last year when I purchased our first ever set of Christmas duvet covers. Stefano and I were putting them on at 9pm last night 🙈

The only time I get peace to do anything is when most of the house is asleep. I need to take a photo of this years set up but I’ve got to go to work. Hopefully there will be light so I can take some when I get back.

Are you all set with your Christmas decorations?

Arwen

Whilst I was away celebrating my Gran’s birthday, my home was being battered by storm Arwen.

Luckily we didn’t incur lots of damage but we did lose our ability to communicate as the 3 phone mast went down.

It was such a strange experience (and still is). We live rurally so we rely on our phones a lot! We couldn’t let others know we were ok and we couldn’t run our business. This part was a nightmare. I have lots of maintenance works going on this week and having no phone or internet meant that I couldn’t coordinate the work and I couldn’t order the parts. I couldn’t even let the workers or tenants know that it was delayed as I had no way of communicating. I still can’t load webpages and emails.

I’m sending warm hugs out to those that are on day 6 with no power/heating. It’s amazing how you are left to just get on with it and source support along with 10s of thousands of people all in the same area as you. I’ve never been more thankful for our old oil tank/boiler (the one that I constantly moan and complain about!) as it means we will always have heat and the ability to cook on the AGA even when the power is out.

Did the storm affect your area?

Living Room Roundup…

If you followed along in stories, you should have a perfectly clean living room that’s ready for Christmas.

Here’s a round up if you need to catch up:

1. Clean the sofa
2. Clean the windows & curtains
3. Clean the rug/carpet
4. Clean all floors connected/next to the living room.
5. Move out any furniture that needs to go to make space for the tree.
6. Dust & hoover everything!
7. Enjoy your perfectly clean living room and celebrate by putting up your tree. (I’m giving you permission to do it early 🤣)

Who all followed along with this room?

More preparations…

Our Christmas tree goes in this corner so now it’s time to get the living room Christmas ready. Follow along in stories for the daily tasks.

Task 1: clean the sofa. Our slip covers come off and go in the wash. It takes a few days to get them all washed and dried so it’s a good place for me to start. If your sofa doesn’t need a clean, give your cushions a wash/refresh instead.

Are you going to follow along?

If you’ve been following along in stories, it’s time to celebrate. You now have a declutteted, organised and clean kitchen. If you’re still to get started, here’s the recap:

Task 1: deep clean the oven
Task 2: empty & organise all cupboards
Task 3: empty & organise all drawers
Task 4: wipe all cabinet/drawer fronts and shelves
Task 5: clean those grout lines. Wipe down skirting boards too.
Task 6: clean and organise the fridge.
Task 7: enjoy your perfect kitchen and pop some champagne. You are a superstar!

How’s your kitchen looking?

Nearly there…

Have you been following along in stories? If you have been, you should have a decluttered and almost sparkling clean kitchen. There’s 2 more days to go. Trust me, you’ll like Sunday’s task.

I’ll also do a recap for those of you who are still to start.

Who’s started and who’s getting prepared to start?

November Rituals…

This is my; prepare for Christmas month. My November ritual is to clean and de-clutter every single inch of my home. My DIY How To series, will now be focussing on organising, cleaning and Christmas prep.

I like the house to be in top shape so it’s ready for all of the Christmas carnage and then everything has a place to go after the gift giving. Follow along in stories for my top tips!

Do you have any Christmas rituals for your home? Maybe you are still doing some last minute Diwali cleaning?

Halloween Reading

These are our Halloween/Autumn reads. I’m very fussy with the books that I buy my little ones. I thought it was the teacher in me that caused my fussiness about books, but it’s probably from my parents.

When I lived in England, my Dad & Stepmum sent me books all of the time. They weren’t just any books. They were prize winning ones or the classics that everyone loves. I have a wonderful collection that I’m now able to share with my two.

My Dad is also amazing at telling the scariest stories. A lot of bedtime reading is actually us telling stories from our brains. This is what Stefano calls it.

Some of my best childhood memories are from storytelling nights. Either tucked up in bed, snuggled in a tent or cosy around a camp fire. There were a few nights that I was too scared to leave my spot!

However, fussy or not, the most important thing is that my children love all books and I love reading with them. Even the Paw Patrol books!

Are you fussy with books? Either for yourself or the children? I’m fussy with both!
