Dealing with the loss of a loved one is hard enough without the added weight of complex paperwork. When handling an estate in North Somerset, an accurate property valuation for probate and Inheritance Tax is an essential step.

At Parker's, we provide RICS "Red Book" valuations, the gold standard required by HMRC. These are formal reports following strict guidelines to ensure full compliance and accuracy, going beyond a standard market appraisal.

Our Managing Director, Andrew Simmonds, is a RICS Registered Valuer who carries out these valuations personally. With 35+ years of experience across Backwell, Nailsea, and our local villages, he offers the technical expertise and sensitivity needed during difficult times.

Whether you’re navigating probate now or planning ahead, we’re here to help. If you need a formal valuation for a property in North Somerset, please get in touch. We’re always available for a quiet chat at our Backwell office or via message.

Have questions about the probate process? Ask us in the comments or message us directly.

There’s something special about the homes that define the soundtrack of our local history.

When you think of North Somerset icons, Adge Cutler and The Wurzels are usually top of the list. During the 1950s and 60s, while Adge was crafting the "Scrumpy and Western" sound, the landscape of Nailsea was also being shaped by the construction of these now-classic bay-fronted semi-detached homes.

These houses are more than just bricks and mortar; they represent a golden era of local growth. With their generous proportions and those iconic bay windows that flood the rooms with natural light, it’s no wonder they remain some of the most sought-after properties in our area today.

At Parker’s, we’ve been helping families find their place in the North Somerset community since 1989. With over 35 years of local expertise, we know every nook and cranny of these classic estates and exactly why they make such fantastic family homes.

Do you live in one of Nailsea’s classic 50s semis? We’d love to hear what your favourite feature is: tag a neighbour or share your thoughts in the comments!

When it comes to property, a standard market appraisal isn’t always enough: especially when legal or official requirements are involved.

For situations like probate, matrimonial proceedings, or tax purposes, you need a valuation that stands up to scrutiny. This is where an RICS Red Book valuation becomes essential. These reports are the gold standard in the industry, providing a level of detail and professional accountability that ensures peace of mind for everyone involved.

At Parker's, Andrew Simmonds is an RICS Registered Valuer with decades of experience across North Somerset. His expertise means you receive a formal, evidence-based report that meets the strict standards set by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Whether you’re dealing with the complexities of an estate or navigating a legal settlement, having an accurate and compliant valuation is vital.

If you require a formal valuation for legal or personal reasons, we’re here to help guide you through the process with professional, independent advice. Send us a message or visit us in Backwell to discuss how we can assist.

A fresh opportunity in Backwell! 🏡

We’ve just adjusted the price for this stunning 4-bedroom home in Colliers Gardens to £710,000.

If you’re looking for a contemporary home that’s ready to move into, this could be the one. Built in 2021, it offers all the benefits of a nearly-new property: modern finishes, energy efficiency, and a layout designed for today’s family life.

Location-wise, it’s hard to beat. You’re just a short walk from Nailsea & Backwell train station, making it a commuter’s dream. Plus, for those weekend strolls, the beautiful Backwell Lake is right on your doorstep.

It’s rare for properties of this quality to see a price adjustment, so we don't expect it to stay on the market for long.

Did you know that the legendary "Acker" Bilk was a true North Somerset local?

Born Bernard Stanley Bilk right in Pensford, the jazz icon didn’t just live here: he carried the spirit of the Chew Valley with him throughout his entire career. Even his famous nickname, "Acker," is a nod to our own Somerset dialect for "mate" or "friend."

From forming the "Chew Valley Stompers" to his world-renowned masterpiece "Stranger on the Shore," Acker's music always seemed to echo the soulful, rolling landscapes of our area. It’s that same timeless, rural charm that makes living in villages like Pensford, Backwell, and Nailsea so special today.

At Parker’s, we’re proud to be part of a community with such deep roots and creative history. Whether it’s the iconic stone arches of the Pensford Viaduct or the peaceful hills that once inspired a jazz legend, there is an unmistakable feeling of home in these villages that stays with you.

Ever wondered why Backwell grew the way it did?

Back in the 1970s, a new generation of "Railway Pioneers" arrived. They were looking for more than just a house; they wanted a community with a direct line to the city. That’s when many of our well-loved family estates began to take shape.

These homes were designed for modern living: think generous windows, proper driveways, and gardens big enough for a decent game of football. Decades later, they remain some of the most sought-after spots in North Somerset, especially for those who value that short stroll to the Nailsea & Backwell station.

We’ve been helping families move in and out of these estates since 1989. We’ve seen them evolve from brand-new builds to mature, leafy neighbourhoods. There’s something special about the way these homes have stood the test of time, still offering that perfect balance between village life and an easy commute.

Do you live in one of our 1970s estates? We’d love to hear what makes your corner of the village special. Or better yet, tag a neighbour who’s been here since the beginning!

It’s National Fish & Chips Day! 🐟🍟

There’s something about a chippy tea that just feels like home, isn’t there? Whether it’s the salt and vinegar hit or that first crunch of the batter, we’re lucky to have some proper gems right on our doorstep.

We’re big fans of the crew at Backwell Fish Bar and Noggins in Nailsea: always reliable for a Friday night treat.

But we want to settle the debate: who do you think serves the best chips in North Somerset? Are you a mushy peas person or strictly curry sauce?

Tag your favourite local spot in the comments and let’s give them some love today!

Happy World Environment Day! 🌍

Being lucky enough to live and work in such a beautiful part of the world like North Somerset, we’re always looking for ways to keep our community green. Making your home more energy-efficient isn’t just great for the planet: it can also be a real winner for your pocket and your property value.

Whether you’re in a classic 1950s semi in Backwell or a newer build in Nailsea, here are a few simple ways to go green:

💡 Switch to LED lighting – one of the quickest ways to cut electricity use.
🌡️ Install a smart thermostat to keep your heating in check.
☀️ Consider solar panels – they’re a fantastic long-term investment for adding value to your home.

We’ve seen more and more buyers looking for 'green features' lately, so even small upgrades can make a big difference when it comes time to sell.

Ever wondered which North Somerset village helped shape the world as we know it?

It’s easy to walk through Wrington and get lost in its beauty, but there’s some serious history tucked away in those stone walls. We’re kicking off our new series, ‘North Somerset Icons & Their Homes’, with the father of modern philosophy himself: John Locke.

Born in 1632 in a small cottage right next to All Saints' Church, Locke’s ideas on liberty and government eventually reached across the Atlantic to influence the US Declaration of Independence. The cottage is long gone, but you can still find the plaque marking the spot by the churchyard.

Wrington has always had a way of holding onto its heritage. From the towering church to the winding lanes, it’s a village that feels as significant today as it did centuries ago. We love how our local villages tell these stories through their architecture and character.

Do you have a favorite historic building or a little-known fact about Wrington? We’d love to hear it in the comments below!
