Autumn is a great time to have a good clear-out/sort out whether it’s general household clutter or garden pots/furniture. It can be a time to look at storage internally and externally. Whether this is shelving, fitting out a “dead space” in the home with storage or new (or improved) external buildings such as sheds/lean to’s or log stores.

Happy hump day!

A good job to do now in preparation for the colder/wetter months, is to do a visual check of the entire exterior of your home. Look for cracks and damage to siding, masonry and also for signs of water leaks. This is also a good time to remove any ivy/climbers that can be quite invasive and cause problems in the long run!

Have you barked up your heating system yet to make sure it’s working and that all radiators are functioning/don’t need bleeding? Have you had your boiler service?

Worth doing now so when we get our first cold snap, everything is working as it should!

Today’s nugget of wisdom….

Can be controversial but check chimneys/fire places: Clean and inspect these and flues if your home uses wood-burning heating!

Again, sorting this now can save problems later. Don’t forget failure to have your chimney regularly swept could affect your home insurance cover!

🏠 Inspect the roof: Check for loose, cracked, or missing tiles or loose masonry/damaged render!

If reports are to believed, it’s gonna be a very “damp” autumn/winter. ☔️

It may be a simple fix, but even if it’s not- dealing with it can save you major problems in the future! 💰

Clean gutters and downpipes: Remove fallen leaves and debris to prevent water overflow and possible issues with damp!

Checking windows and door seals for gaps, and adding draught excluders to retain heat.
