💧 Live Water Supply Pipe Repair

A challenging water supply repair completed in the middle of a field.

Following investigation of a visible leak, we excavated down and exposed a ¾-inch black Alkathene water supply pipe. With no isolation or control point available, the repair needed to be carried out with the supply live.

Rather than squeezing off the existing Alkathene pipe to stop the flow, we made the decision to work on the pipe live. Squeezing an older supply pipe can potentially stress or weaken the material, creating another vulnerable point and the possibility of a future leak.

The damaged section was therefore cut out under live conditions and repaired using Plasson Plass4 couplings, successfully resolving all visible leaks while avoiding unnecessary stress elsewhere on the existing supply.

A good example of considering not only the immediate repair, but also the long-term integrity of the water supply.

💧 Water Leak Detection, Repair & Permanent Reinstatement

Another water leak successfully located, repaired and fully reinstated.

On this job, the leak was traced to an existing 3/8” lead water supply pipe. Following careful excavation and exposure of the service, the defective section was identified and the necessary repairs carried out.

We then installed a new section of 25mm MDPE pipe, connected using Plasson fittings, providing a secure and reliable repair to the existing supply.

Once the new pipework was installed, the supply was tested to confirm that all leaks had been resolved before completing the permanent reinstatement of the excavated area.

💧 Another water leak successfully located and repaired today for one of our regular clients!

We traced the leak to a buried full-flow valve on a 50mm MDPE water main, situated close to a pressure reducing valve (PRV).

After locating another isolation valve on the inlet side of the PRV, we established that the leaking valve was no longer required. The defective valve was removed and the pipework reinstated using a 50mm Plasson repair coupling.

✅ Leak accurately located
✅ Faulty valve removed
✅ 50mm MDPE pipework repaired
✅ Water supply reinstated
✅ No more leaks

Another successful repair with minimal disruption for the client. 💦

💧 5 YEARS AGO — I BACKED MYSELF 💧

Five years ago, I laid down my tools at the Water Board for the final time.

I remember writing that post saying it was time to continue with my own challenge and my own legacy — A.P.C Water Engineers. At the time, I knew I had the experience and the determination, but I couldn’t have known just how far that decision would take me.

I walked away from the security of a job, stood on my own two feet and backed myself.

Five years later, I’m still here. Still getting in the hole. Still getting covered in mud. Still solving problems. 😂💧

But now I’m doing it under my own name, with my own vans, my own reputation and a business I’ve built from the ground up.

There have been long days, sleepless nights, risks, setbacks and plenty of lessons along the way. I’ve had to learn not only how to be a water engineer, but how to be a business owner and keep pushing when everything rests on your shoulders.

And somewhere amongst all that hard work, life has moved on too. I’ve become a dad — and seeing the little one wearing A.P.C makes everything I’ve worked for mean even more. ❤️

Five years ago I wrote:

“The experience will come first and the money will come later. Never give up and never lose hope.”

I still believe every word of it.

I’m proud of what A.P.C has become, but I’m even more excited about where we’re going next. There’s plenty more work to do, plenty more problems to solve and a much bigger legacy still to build.

Here’s to 5 years of standing on my own, taking the risks and proving to myself that leaving was the right decision. 💧💪

Another leaking water supply pipe successfully replaced. 💧🔧

This time, we were helping an elderly customer whose old ½” iron supply pipe had developed a leak.

Our team replaced nearly 25 metres of ageing pipework with a new 25mm MDPE supply, using impact moling to minimise excavation and disruption to the property.

The works included:

• New connection at the meter box
• Installation of a new frost box
• Nearly 25 metres of new 25mm MDPE supply pipe
• Connection to the new plumbing installation prepared by our plumber
• New full-flow lever valve
• Old leaking pipework capped off and taken out of service

The block paving will be professionally reinstated later this week by our own reinstatement team, allowing us to manage the job from the initial excavation and pipe replacement right through to the final finish.

Another old leaking supply replaced, another leak resolved, and another customer left with a reliable new water supply. ✅
