Newark Cattle Market Company Limited are issuing this press release following meetings yesterday with Newark and Sherwood District Council. There will be no further markets operated by Newark Cattle Market Company Limited however Newark and Sherwood District Council are having on going negotiations with an undisclosed party interested in operating the market in future.
All Parties were hoping for a seamless takeover, but Newark and Sherwood District Council could not reach an agreement prior to the Newark Cattle Market Company Limited lease ending.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our buyers and sellers, past and present for the wonderful support over the past 50 years which we at Newark Cattle Market Company Limited do very much appreciate and assure you that we will pay all sellers for past sales and we equally expect to be paid within terms.
We hope this is not the end for cattle and sheep auctions in Newark and the community that surrounds the area.

1374 Hoggs sold to terrific trade today with plenty of demand from buyers.

SH Gunn topped the ppk section selling his run of Beltex Hoggs to 300ppk.

Sobraon Farms topped the pph section selling Hoggs to £142.00.

🐑Cull Ewes and Rams 🐑

A small entry of Ewes and Rams this selling to a fast trade, 344 Ewes averaged £112.65.

Tim Clipsham topped the Ewe section today selling Texel Ewes to £166.

J Fussey topped the Cull Ram section today selling Bleu Du Maine Rams to £125.

🐑Store Sheep🐑

Charlie Beard sold Charolais x Ewes with Twin Lambs at Foot to £70 per life or £210 per unit.

97 Store Hoggs sold to an average of £72.13, High Harbour Farm topped selling Texels to £85.

"Newark Cattle Market are issuing this press release as there has been a newspaper article which does not reflect the factual position between the Newark Cattle Market Company Limited and the Council. Newark Cattle Market Company Limited have paid the basic rent £80,000 per annum and rates in full every year including £119,700 for 2019/2020. The only rent that is outstanding is the turnover rent and the Company has made a claim against the Council for breaches of the lease as a result of the disruption of the market during in the past 4 years. The Company has been most willing to negotiate with the Council and has worked tirelessly to promote the market and to ensure a smooth transition to a new leaseholder.”

We look forward to seeing you as normal tomorrow, the sheep sale will still go ahead and payment for stock will be in full as ever.
