Britannia Beckwith expanded its reach with the acquisition of Dickeson & French Removals of Eastbourne in 1990 (a respected BAR member with roots stretching back decades).

It was a bold move during an uncertain time. The country soon entered one of its toughest recessions, and the housing market slowed dramatically.

A fantastic weekend at British Association of Removers conference in Birmingham the other week.

The event brought together removals and storage professionals to discuss challenges and opportunities facing our industry. It was also great to hear from Brighton based keynote speaker Philip Eeles whose insights on leadership, culture and business growth gave us plenty to reflect on.

Not only are we celebrating our centenary this year, we are shining a light on Tina, who is celebrating 20 years with us!

Over the past two decades, our office manager has been a much loved part of the team, helping support the company through years of growth, change and continued success.

20 years of her dedication, hard work and commitment have made Britannia Beckwith better by the day, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything she has contributed over the years.

Here’s a throwback to Sue’s first formal office. A time that John recalls fondly, and a pivotal moment in the history of Beckwith removals.

In the 80’s, John was finally granted permission to turn the study at their home in Seaford into an office to meet requirements of the time; “With a brass plaque on the wall outside like doctors have, with Beckwith Removals on it” - a piece of history which we still have to this day!

Each evening John would go over to Sue and Barry's house so that she could type up the estimates to be posted out the next day and with effort came success…. Not long after, the company set up its first office in Newhaven, just a few miles further along the coast - an exciting time for all of us involved.

As many of you know, we sadly lost Sue far too early in 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was immensely proud of everything that had been built over the years, and her legacy continues to shape who we are today.

Again, here’s to 100 years of our service.
