🚁 AERIAL | Marshfield AFC
One of the first jobs I did when I started putting Cosgrove UAV Services out there.
This came about after a meeting with Marshfield Community Council, where I met some of the people involved with the football club and heard what they were trying to achieve with the ground.
Marshfield AFC were looking at some changes to the ground as part of the requirements for moving up into the next league. This included additional fencing around the pitch, new access points and netting around the goal areas.
I suggested using aerial photography for the planning documentation rather than simply marking everything up on existing satellite imagery.
At the time, the Google imagery around the pitch was pretty poor and hadn't been updated, despite higher quality imagery being available only a few streets away. I thought the club deserved something a bit better.
So I flew the pitch, produced a high-resolution orthomosaic and marked the existing and proposed fencing, access points and other changes directly onto it.
It wasn't just about making it look better. It gave the club a current, clear view of their own site and a much cleaner way of showing what they were proposing.
This was also one of the first times I took something I'd been learning with the drones and actually used it to solve a real problem for someone.
Looking back at it now, there's definitely things I'd do differently, but it's still a project I remember pretty well.
Mainly because I did it at about 7am straight after a night shift at Port Talbot, and then nearly lost the drone to a bird about five seconds after take-off in front of the bloke I was doing the job for. 😂
Good times.
