🎳 It's a strike!

We're delighted to see Hollywood Bowl Banbridge open its doors at The Boulevard, and proud to have been involved

The 23,000 sq ft family entertainment centre brings 21 lanes of ten-pin bowling (including 4 VIP lanes), a Bandai Namco amusement arcade and pool tables to the heart of Co Down. It's Hollywood Bowl's second venue in Northern Ireland and the anchor of The Boulevard's new food and entertainment quarter.

Turning an existing retail unit into a lively leisure destination brought its own challenges, and it's been a real pleasure working alongside Lotus Property, Hollywood Bowl and the full project team to deliver it.

Steel Framed Dwelling 🏗️
This project update is a little different, and it's a first for us at CD Architects: a steel framed domestic dwelling.
Our client chose a steel frame for a number of reasons, with efficiency on site at the top of the list:
✅ No waiting on the brickwork. The roof can go on as soon as the frame is up, rather than waiting for the bricklayers to finish.
✅ Speed of er****on. The frame goes up in a matter of days, getting the build weathertight much sooner.
✅ Trades working in parallel. With the structure and roof in place, internal and external works can run side by side, shortening the overall programme.
✅ Precision. Factory-fabricated steel means accurate dimensions and less waste on site.
✅ Design freedom. Steel allows for larger open spans and more flexible internal layouts.
It's been great to explore a different method of construction on a residential project, and we're looking forward to sharing more as the build progresses. Watch this space! 👀

🏡 Thinking about building a farm dwelling? You could already qualify.

Under Northern Ireland's planning policy for farm dwellings, permission can be granted where:

✅ Your farm business has been actively trading for 6+ years
✅ No dwellings or development sites have been sold off the holding (outside settlement limits) in the last 10 years
✅ The new home is sited to cluster with existing farm buildings — ideally with access from an existing lane

Meet those three, and a new dwelling on your farm may be within reach — including for those keeping or breeding horses commercially.

The detail matters. Site selection, demonstrating "clustering," and building the supporting case (especially if an alternative site is needed for health & safety or business expansion reasons) all need to be right first time — permission under this policy only comes round once every 10 years, so there's no room for a rejected application.

At CD Architects, we work with farming families across Northern Ireland and Ireland to assess eligibility, choose the right site, and prepare planning applications that stand up to scrutiny.
