🔴 Rendells Newton Abbot Livestock Market Report

Sale of Cattle & Sheep on Wednesday 6th May 2026

Rendells Auctioneers are pleased to report a very good trade at the May Fair livestock auction, following the recent market price resetting due to the continued pressure on cattle deadweight prices.

🐮 Store Cattle Ring 🐮
Top call in the store ring was £1900 for a pair of 14month old South Devon steers from Messers Quantick of Newton Abbot closely followed by a 12month old Blonde x steer at £1700 from the same home with other bunches of 20month old South Devon steers selling to £1780 and £1720 and 20month old South Devon heifers at £1620 from R Camp of Ashburton.
12month old Simmintal steers from DR Woods of Kingsbridge sold to £1800 with his other 11 to 12month old AA x steers selling for £1380, £1350 and £1320. Messrs PJ Caunter & Son of Totnes had a very well deserved trade of the day, with his large consignment of 14 month old AA x heifers selling to £1190 twice, £1150 twice, £1100 & £1000 with a bunch of 17 month old AA x heifers making £1400.
Hatherleigh Farms of Bovey Tracey bunch of 14month old Herford x heifers sold to £1220 and £1000 while JP Horswell of Plymouth sold his 26month old Hereford steers to £1670 and Jack Perry of Westdown Farm, Blackawton sold his bunch of strong 14 to 15month old Hereford x steers to £1530 and his 15month old AA x steers to £1540 and his 16month old AA x heifers to £1400. In all 132 store cattle averaged £1301 in the market which was a strong result, well supported with the crowd of people in attendance and bidding.

🐮 Prime Cattle Ring 🐮
Selling to a top of 330ppkg for a 26 month old Hereford steer weighing 650kg at £2145 and other AA x steers at 600kg selling to £1850 308ppkg.
OTM cows not tested saw a trade for a SDevon cow weighing 675kg selling to 245ppkg at £1653.

🐑 Sheep Pens 🐑
Sheep section today had everything of all types of buyers with new season lambs from J Quant of Newton Abbot selling his pens weighing in at 48kg to 363ppkg, a run of heavy hoggs from M & R Dunn of Totnes sold £162 and £154 per head and FK Martin of Postbridge had hoggs at 300ppkg, cull ewes sold to atop of £120 per head from P Burningham of Buckfast.
