WE’RE HIRING – BRIGHTON & HOVE

We’re looking for an Architect or Architectural Technician to join our growing team at PMR Architecture in Brighton & Hove.

We’ve got a really varied workload in the office, ranging from residential extensions and bespoke homes through to larger residential and commercial projects, and we’re looking for someone who can come in and play an active role across the different stages of a project.

For this role, relevant experience working within a UK architectural practice is important. In particular, we need someone with a good working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and the UK planning system, who is comfortable developing projects from the design stages through into detailed technical information.

We’re not necessarily looking for someone who fits into a very specific box. You could be a qualified Architect or an experienced Architectural Technician; what matters most is that you are technically capable, practical, enthusiastic and comfortable working as part of a small collaborative team.

Our Brighton & Hove office is based at Sheridan House on Western Road in Hove, a couple of minutes from the seafront.

PMR is a friendly, forward-thinking RIBA Chartered Practice and, as we continue to grow the Brighton office, there is plenty of opportunity for the right person to develop with us and become an important part of the team.

Another brilliant morning for the PMR Trail Network, this time in Bovey Tracey.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this morning. We had a great group of attendees heading out in all directions:

🚶 Walkers exploring Parke National Trust
🚴 A brave group taking on a challenging Dartmoor mountain bike route
🚴 Some enjoying a slightly more leisurely ride along the Wray Valley Trail

Most importantly, everyone made it back in one piece for a well-earned breakfast at Cafe 360.

As part of our fundraising for Rowcroft Hospice, we also added a photo challenge along the way and the results did not disappoint.

Our winning entries included:

A very photogenic cow - Myles Clough.
Some impressive cycling stunts - Ben Rotheray & Allister Parr.
More cycling stunts, because apparently one was not enough
And the most creative photo of the day: our walkers pretending to ride a tandem bike in the woods - Rob Johnson, Hannah Cameron & Mara Cavill

No prizes for guessing which picture has been edited!

Thank you again to everyone who came along, donated, posed, pedalled, walked and helped make the morning such a success.

The scaffolding is down at Austins.

After months of work behind the scenes, it’s fantastic to finally see the building revealed in all its glory.

We’ve been delighted to work with the team at Austins in Newton Abbot on this exciting transformation, which will see the creation of their brand-new Menswear Store alongside Quarter Coffee, a fresh new coffee bar forming part of the revitalised space.

With the scaffold now removed, the external transformation can finally be properly appreciated, and it’s great to see the design, materials and detailing all coming together.

There are still a few finishing touches to complete, but it’s already looking fantastic and we’re really pleased to see the project reaching this stage.

We can’t wait to see the doors open!

We’re delighted to share that we've been named as a South West regional winner in the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2026.

Our recent project in Devon has won in the category of Best Residential Extension and will now go forward to the National LABC Grand Finals 2026.

This is fantastic recognition for the whole project team and a brilliant reflection of the care, collaboration and attention to detail that went into the scheme. We really enjoyed working alongside Dean Burton Ltd - Building Company for the construction phase and they really brought our vision to life.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards celebrate quality in construction, technical design and project delivery, so we’re incredibly proud to see Meadow Dene recognised at regional level.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the project, and congratulations to all of the other regional winners and highly commended entries across the South West.

We’re looking forward to the Grand Finals in January!

This is just a small preview of the fun to come at tomorrow’s PMR Trail Network ride at Haldon Forest, where we’ll be adding a couple of charity challenges before heading out onto the trails as part of our fundraising for Rowcroft Hospice.
A relaxed networking ride, a brilliant local charity, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting.

Wish us luck. We think we might need it.

The images do a fantastic job of showing what the event is all about: fresh air, mountain biking, good conversation and bringing people from across the construction industry together in a more relaxed setting.

A few progress photos from our project at Yarner Wood, within East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve.

The Douglas Fir glulam timber frame is now complete, marking a major milestone for the project. Constructed using timber from the Nature Reserve itself, the frame gives the building its true sense of scale and form for the first time.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see the structure taking shape on site, particularly on a project where the material choice, setting and construction approach are so closely connected.

Meet Michael Pirrie, Senior Architect at PMR Architecture.
With over 10 years’ experience in the residential sector across the South East, Michael has worked on a wide variety of projects, from large housing developments through to smaller bespoke schemes.
He brings together a strong design eye with a practical, hands-on approach to delivery, and has experience across all stages of the RIBA Plan of Work.
Alongside his role at PMR, Michael is also a committee member for RIBA Sussex and Chair of the Small and Emerging Practices Group, contributing to the wider architectural community and supporting conversation across the profession.
Outside of architecture, Michael enjoys travelling and recently went on a big trip to Japan — which we’re sure provided plenty of design inspiration along the way.
We’re very pleased to have Michael as part of the PMR team.
