Neil Montgomery nominated his friend Daniel, and after hearing his story, it’s easy to see why.
Here’s Daniel’s story⬇️
Daniel Flude or Fludey as many people know him is a husband to Emma, father to Joe and Sam and a friend to many. In mid December 2020 Dan suffered a terrible stroke and was rushed to hospital where they identified he was having a brain haemorrhage and needed urgent brain surgery.
His family were told if he survived he most likely wouldn't be able to swallow, talk or move. Right up until Christmas the hospital were operating on Dan, trying to stop the bleed and save his life. After the operation he was on life support & the doctors weren't sure he would come off it.
Dan was moved to Homerton hospital for rehabilitation in March 2021.
Throughout this ordeal Dan’s family had not been allowed to see him because of covid restrictions, only able to video call once a week in which Dan couldn't talk or move. His family played him music, read the football results, talked about his friends & the kids all in the hope he could understand them & would keep fighting.
Slowly Dan started to improve, he was fighting. He could breathe for himself, managed to start swallowing and to eat. He tried so hard to talk the odd word. He didn't give up. He was making a miraculous recovery. He was in hospital a total of 212 days before returning home in mid July 2021, something we were scared would never happen.
Dan went back to hospital recently, as his brain swelling had reduced he needed to have a specially made metal plate fitted to cover the gap in his skull. He would have been very vulnerable without it.
He is working hard on his communication. The neurologist are amazed at how far he has come. Life really has handed him some bad cards. He has lost his job, his independence and every day can feel a struggle.
