Sunday 10th May
Today was a hive of activity down at GCRN - Rushcliffe Halt; with almost the full team of volunteers getting many small jobs finished before the arrival of The Flying Scotsman and Tornado next week.
The theme of today was paint, paint and more paint. Our volunteers wasted no time getting a fresh coat of paint on the platform railing that was prepared last week, adding an additional stretch of platform edge paint leading to our new viewing area. Then on to painting the stair treads, benches and other bits of touching up around the site.
A couple of our volunteers also managed to get the site area nicely mown and strimmed, including a first mow on the freshly seeded area infront of the cabin. There have also been a number of jobs that have been carried out throughout the week, including more gardening, painting the new viewing area fence and finally finishing off the paint on the end of the cabin.
To finish there is also a sneak peak at our new notice board (just needed a final coat of blue, which has since been completed)

Sunday 3rd May
Another great turnout of volunteers today with the deadline to be ready for Tornado and Flying Scotsman visiting us later this month is growing ever closer.
Today we managed to tick 2 significant jobs off of our to-do list, firstly half the team finished off fitting the rest of our new pickets to the roadside fence, which has smartened our boundry up significantly. Secondly, the rest of the team completed a new track level viewing area off the end of the platform, this will allow visitors to get great views of our guest locomotives in just a few weeks time.
After these tasks were complete we took advantage of the number of people avalible to move some very heavy benches from one platform to the other. This being possible now that the recast concrete floor is fully cured in the platform shelter. A few of our volunteers were clearly starting to feel tired after all this work and took advantage of the bench while they waited for more items to be passed over to them.

Sunday 26th April
Another great turnout today. The team split off on two main jobs, the majority got on with finishing the platform edge painting, which looks amazing now it is complete.
Meanwhile a few of our voluteers started the task of putting up a load of new pickets on the roadside fence. The remaining volunteers continued with various gardening and general site maintenace jobs, getting the site looking its best for next month.

Sunday 19th April
A fantastic turn out today at GCRN - Rushcliffe Halt, with what felt like most of our volunteers. The main jobs today were painting the entire edge on platform 2, giving the site a much needed mow after all the fresh spring growth, pressure washing the remainder of platform 1s old edge paint and starting work on a viewing area at the end of platform 1. Due to the great turn out and brilliant weather we also got on with many other smaller tasks such as, adding some more grass seed to bare patches on the freshly levelled area, weeding and sorting through our potted plants ready to place back around the cabin, give another coat of paint to the wall in the platform shelter, wash the stair treads and just generally tidying the site after the landscaping works over winter.

Sunday 12th March
Today there were limited numbers avalible, so the few that were avalible began painting the platform edging on platform No.1. The rest of the platform still needs jet washing before we can paint the rest, but at least you can begin to see the improvement so far.

Sunday 5th April..with the team shifting from chopping to gardening, with the levelling and (grass) seeding of the recently levelled area in front of the cabin at GCRN - Rushcliffe Halt. We can only hope that the weather is kind now to promote grass growth.

Those without rake and stone picking duties turned their attention to continuing painting the Platform 1 shelter, with all bets off on how long it took someone (not painting) to say 'missed a bit!

Sunday 29th March.
Not many pictures today but still productive despite the looming weather.
As is becoming the norm lately, the team split between Woodgate road and GCRN - Rushcliffe Halt. At Woodgate road the team continued tidying up after the clearance season by doing some fencing work on the freshly cleared sections, as well as doing some strimming on the areas cleared last season. Meanwhile at Rushcliffe halt, the team continued with the list of jobs for May, one team member took on the task of carrying on with compacting the new stone laid infront of the cabin last week, while other volunteers continued with getting the fences freshly crecoted.
Finally the rest of our volunteers continued the task of removing the old platfrom edge paint and pressure washing it, ready for fresh paint as soon as the weather cooperates for long enough.

Sunday 22nd March
Today the team continued with jobs down at GCRN - Rushcliffe Halt, one of our volunteers continued giving the fence around the picnic area a fresh coat of crecote. Meanwhile a couple more of our team made start giving the platform shelters a fresh coat of paint, getting them looking their best once again. The rest of our volunteers continued with the slow job of pressure washing and removing paint from the platform edging ready to repaint. We are also pleased to show the result of the landscaping work that was teased in last weeks post, a few of our volunteers worked through the week with the help of a mini digger to tidy up the area around the cabin. This was a mix of grading off all of the soil from some areas and leveling it off where it was needed and laying around 16 tons of new stone to create a pathway infront of the cabin along with 2 parking bays. There is still to tidying up to do but the bulk is done and will look brilliant once we get some grass growing back through.
