🏡 WIKI WEDNESDAY | IS THIS A GOOD TIME OF YEAR TO SELL?
This is one I get asked ALL the time as we head towards autumn and winter …
“Should I wait until January to put my house on the market?”
Well… dare I say it… there are only 100 days until Christmas! 🎄
And if you’re thinking about moving, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should press pause until the New Year.
In fact, the period between now and Christmas can be a really important window for sellers.
Why?
Because buyers don’t suddenly disappear just because the nights get darker. People still need to move, people still want to move, and plenty of buyers are actively looking before Christmas — particularly those who would love to be in their new home for the New Year.
And then comes BOXING DAY…
Rightmove recorded its busiest-ever Boxing Day in 2025, with visits to the site jumping by 93% compared with Christmas Day. Buyer enquiries also rose by 67% in the five days after Christmas, while new listings increased by 143%.
So if you’re thinking:
“I’ll wait until January…”
…it might actually be worth having the conversation NOW.
Getting your home prepared, photographed, valued and strategically marketed before Christmas means you’re not starting from scratch when that Boxing Day bounce arrives.
It gives you time to get everything right rather than rushing to market in January with everyone else.
Of course, there isn’t one perfect time to sell every property — price, presentation, competition and your own moving plans all matter.
But if moving is on your mind, don’t assume that autumn means the market is closed until spring.
Sometimes being ready before the rush is the clever bit. 🏡
