Lovely little door repair at the start of this week. The pair maker to this substantial front door had been damaged and in turn was coming loose. On inspection the existing piece was a soft pine strip which had been poorly adhered to the painted finish of the door and then screwed with internal screws which were all pretty much rusted through. After removing the strip, screws and adhesive I spent some time cleaning and sanding the area which I was going to be bonding the new pair maker too. Took it back to the raw wood and scored the area so that the wood glue I was using would give a much stronger adhesion and also bond the two pieces of timber together perfectly. I sourced a lovely piece of Iroko Hardwood from and put a round over detail to both sides prior to colour match painting. I then glued and pinned the piece on before sanding and filling before a finishing coat to complete. Really happy with how this one came out.
